Every autumn the forests around our brewery are bursting with small wild blackberries. We spent some days with friends picking them for a beautiful tart red ale that had been aging in red wine barrels since 2015.
The result is Angela, a chestnut colored ale with a cream head. Aromas of prune, vanilla and toffee dominate, followed by the flavor of ripe blackberries, pepper, caramel, red wine, and toasty malts. Medium-bodied with a juicy, tart finish and hints of aged balsamic.

Sample at Sour Spring Break, Helsinki. Colour is slightly cloudy red with very small white head. Aromas and flavours: Fruits, berries, red beries, some musty yeasty elements and some sourness.

Draught @ MBCC '19 [ Red Session ]. - Mikkeller Beer Copenhagen Celebration 2019, Øksnehallen, Halmtorvet 11, 1700 København V, Danmark.[ As Penyllan Angela - 2015 ].Clear medium red amber colour with a average to small, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, sweet malt, sour, oak, barrel, berries - blackberries, light caramel, funk notes. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and light acidic with a long duration, oak, barrel, wood, berries - blackberry - red berries, funk, light citric. MBCC. Clear brown with small tan head. Aroma is malt, oak, lemon, funk and brett. Flavour is malt, oak, brett, funk, medium sweet, lemon, citric, little sour fruit and a little dry.

From backlog. Draught @ Sour Spring Break. Dry, funky and cheesy with some moldy cellar, vinous berries, earthiness and sourness. Interesting.

Draught @ Pikkulintu Ruttopuisto. Rated on 29.05.2019. Aroma is typical to sour darks with balsamico and sour cherries. Flavour is fresh and sour with lactic acid, sour cherries and wood. Finishes with more lactic acid. Not my thing.

(Keg at Pikkulintu Ruttopuisto, 20190528) The beer poured brown and cloudy. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had malts, caramel, sourness and berries. Palate was medium bodied and dry with medium carbonation. Flavours were tartness, berries, caramel, malts, sourness and bitterness. Aftertaste was tart, sour and bitter. A very pleasant tart brew with sweet malty notes.
