Double Decocted Vienna Lager

When thinking about how to best use our decoction vessel, a Vienna style lager immediately came to mind. Rookie Card is a malt driven Vienna Lager brewed with an extended double decoction process resulting in a rich malt profile. Hopped lightly with Saaz to allow the malt to shine, and lagered extensively, this beer is an ode to malt complexity in a drinkable package. Malt notes dominate with a lot of dry rye bread, toffee, raisin notes and finishes with a dry mineral-like character.

Pale amber, with a slight chill haze. Thick head. Has a nice assertive vienna/munich malt character. The aroma probably promised more malt juiciness than the palate delivers. There's some caramel to it, a touch of toastiness. The finish has some sweetness, the malts are rich and bitterness low. Pretty good.

Bright amber, head is gone immediately. Light malt nose. Vague palate of malt, bitterness and dirty line taste. Good body for style

Beautiful amber colour, clean. Nice aroma of biscuity malts. Chewy caramel and biscuits, it seems quite sweet but balanced, good body, delicate bitterness, and pleasant Lager esters. Very well made.

355mL can, pours a clear amber with a small white head. Nose is full of bready malt and toasted caramel. Flavour is dry and bready, with a nice toasted bready malt character. There's not much hops but it's dry, with low residual sweetness. Good stuff.

Good clear medium copper body with sadly modest foam. Soft malty caramel on the nose, very slight biscuit. Flavour is a soft biscuit, dry and slightly chewy, but way too thin and wet. I prefer my Viennas thicker and hoppier and this misses on both fronts.
