At the dawn of our time, near to a future sun, in the imagined universe of reality, dwells the Sky Kraken. A contradiction of the senses offering ripe melon, juicy citrus, pineapple and pepper flavors to the brave. An idea brought together by the cosmic attraction of opposites, Sky Kraken is a naturally unfiltered beer. Sky Kraken is also just a really cool name for this really cool beer that we wanted to brew using the hops we love. We hope you love it, too. Or, at least, love the Sky Kraken and become a believer. “I Believe.” – VWP

Can at home, from Beerdome, 16/11/20. Moderately hazed pale golden to yellow with a decent white cap that settles to a swirl. Nose is weed, pine, grass, grapefruit, ripe tropical fruits. Taste comprises grass, ripe citric zest, melon, pine, floral notes, weed, toasted malts, orange peel. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close spiked with leafy come juicy hop bitterness. Decent pale ... grassy and tropical fruits gel together with an assertive level of hop bitterness.

Super hazy and deep, pale golden and straw coloured body with a dense, three to four centimetre, very soapy and frothy off-white head that leaves a very ugly lace on the side of the glass - sort of like scattered clouds. Aroma of citrus, hay, flowers and a bit more oranges - very nice and showing some light juice, coupled with the relatively strong grassiness. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong grassy and herbal flavours show at first with a soft and relatively subdued wheat and dryness that brings out more of the bitter hop qualities with the subdued alpha acid punch. Aftertaste shows some of the herbal and grassy notes, but the alpha acids come through, just a bit late, with the citrus twang coming at the very end that has the full orange slices noticeable and a light funky quality that makes this just a hair more complex. Overall, a nice hazy IPA that is very easy-drinking, yet full-of-flavour and leaves a nice, super subtle punch of grapefruit, oranges and grass at the very end. Good to sample, and well-recommended, especially if you are in Washington State - I had this even in Montana and I was happy, despite the fact that I should only be supporting Montana breweries while I'm here! I sampled this twelve ounce can, purchased from Super One [grocery store] in Kalispell, Montana for US$1,67 on 26-July-2020 sampled a few hours later in my hotel room here in Kalispell, Montana on 26-July-2020.

12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 8/19/2019. Pours very hazy/cloudy deep golden amber color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with great retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice dense spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tangerine, orange juice, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, strawberry, blueberry, gooseberry, wood, mint, peppercorn, pine, wheat, cracker, biscuit dough, light toast, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt notes; with big strength. Taste of big tangerine, orange juice, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, strawberry, blueberry, gooseberry, wood, mint, peppercorn, pine, wheat, cracker, biscuit dough, light toast, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Light pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, orange juice, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, strawberry, blueberry, gooseberry, wood, mint, peppercorn, pine, wheat, cracker, biscuit dough, light toast, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness balance, and no hop astringency after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, and fairly sticky/resinous/rindy mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 5.5%. Overall this is an awesome NEAPA. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt flavors; very smooth and pretty refreshing to drink with the mellowly bitter/resinous/drying finish; awesome soft feel for the ABV. Awesome Citra, Mosaic, Strata profile. Very juicy, vibrant, and fairly dank/earthy hops; with a great wheat/oat/malt backbone for the ABV. Light residual sweetness with lingering resin dryness. A really enjoyable offering, and spot on style example. Loved the hop profile as expected.
