Bottle from Brewdog Slovensko. Clear golden colour, short lasting white head. Aroma is a bit strange, spicy, wild yeast. Taste is sweet, some honey, fresh fruitiness. Berries, herbal. Finish fruity, lightly sourish, elderberry (might this be the gooseberry). Interesting beer.

Bouteille 330ml. De couleur dorée et voilée. Nez légèrement fruité (petits fruits, très léger de citron), moyen d’épices et de de houblon floral avec de légères notes de blé et d’herbes. Moyenne-mince en bouche avec un pétillement moyen ainsi qu’une texture aux petites notes crémeuses. Moyen-léger goût fruité aux notes acides (bouquets de petits fruits, notes de citron) et d’épices (coriandre, traces de poivre) avec des traces de gomme à savon lors de l’entrée en bouche suivi d’un goût légèrement sucré de malt avec un léger goût de blé puis en finale l’on retrouve une légère amertume de houblon floral avec des notes herbeuses. Post-goût moyen-court, très légèrement amer de houblon floral aux notes herbeuses avec des petites notes acides de blé et de fruits.

(Bottle) Hazy golden yellow with negligible head. Aroma is subtly honey and lemon. Medium body and quite well carbonated with a nice mouthfeel. Tastes not very distinct but there’s soft malty sweetness, some fruity tartness that I would have identified as citrus if I didn’t know there were gooseberries in there. There’s also enough bitterness developing at the end to give a clean finish. Overall a drinkable and unusual beer but not really to my taste (although my bottle was more than half a year past the before date).

Pours a deep straw, light golden color with a smallish bubbly white head that dissipates quickly. Smells of mild spice rack with a light tart fruitiness and a it of sweet bready sugary malt. The flavor is graham cracker and pilsner malt with a light fruity tartness as well as a large amount of non descript spices. Light to medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet spicy mouthfeel. Another one that is quite different, but I liked it. The sweetness in the malt works well with the high level of spice.

Aroma has grapefruit, some herbs, grass and wheat. Flavour has some fruitiness, hints of grapefruit and herbs. Could not locate the gooseberry here, perhaps it is the grapefruit. Feels a bit light.

330 ml bottle into pint glass, best before March 2013. Pours fairly crystal clear golden amber color with a small 1 finger white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of gooseberry, cherry, apple, herbal, floral, honey, light caramel, bread, grain, and wheat. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and decent strength. Taste of caramel, bread, pear, light berry, toasted grain, wheat, herbal, floral, and light herbal spiciness. Lingering notes of caramel, light fruits, bread, toasted grain, wheat, herbal, and earthy spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Solid flavor balance and complexity; with a fair amount of flavors, but does border being watery a bit; zero cloying flavors on the finish. Slightly dry on the finish. Gooseberry flavor was not as prominent as I would have hoped. Medium carbonation and body; with a lightly creamy and slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a nice herbal ancient ale style. Nice flavor balance with decent complexity; very smooth and easy to drink. I enjoyed this quite a bit.

12 oz. bottle purchased @ Brewtopia. English pint shows me a clear yellow with a few floating particles. Average retention. Normal carbonation. Nose has black current and honey malt. I’ve had a few brews that have used gooseberries and I get more of a current type taste with light wheat. Dry texture. Body is thin but I expected that. Overall it is quite an herbal tasting beer. Ok.
