"The most convivial of ales" as described (and often imbibed) by 'The Bard' himself has become the adopted beer of the bohemian vagabonds of the Scottish arts scene. A pale golden brew, that is cold stored with gooseberries to deliver a sharp refreshing drinking experience.

New Beer Distributors 11.2oz ($1.75): Pours a slightly hazy orange with barely any head. Aroma is mostly wheat and gooseberry. I don’t know if this is a real traditional ale or if it is only a gimmick, but in any case I think it is interesting, seeing as I am no opponent of mild small beers. Kind of strange tasting, because of the particular combination of fruits and spices (I suppose the myrtle and the gooseberry). There are also some hop notes at the end. Apart from the difference in flavoring, it has a similar texture to most wheat ales. I don’t think it deserves all the hate, at least they try to do more than just make another boring ESB.

this is all gimmick, all window dressing, this is no more an "old scottish brew" than fosters is traditional australian. sure, they might brew it with gooseberry’s, but ya know what i taste? nothing, thats what, interesting dinner conversation topic when you bring this to people that dont know anything about beer, but as an interesting beer for the afficiando? no.

Comes in a 4-pack sample of Heather Ales for Christmas 2010. The first time I tried this was 5 years ago. Now, my taste buds have changed, so lets see if this critic has changed. Pours a yellow-golden colour with a frothy white head that is smaller than the other beers in the pack. Light retention but decent lacing. Not much smell to it. More on the wheat side of things, than the fruit. The fruit comes out a bit more in the taste, but still quite mild. The weird thing is the small chocolate aftertaste that comes out if this. A bit too mild for me, but a nice try.

[500ml bottle from brewer’s own stand at the Good Food Show 2009, NEC Brimingham] Gold, moderate but diminishing white head, moderate fizz. A sweet lager aroma gives way to a smooth ctrus and vanilla body - almost too smooth at times, but this did grow on me the more I drank.

Warning! Early amateur rating! Refreshing beer. Slight gooseberry fruitiness. Moderate carbonation. Dry finish with a light touch of bitterness. Very nice!

Draught at Churchkey, a staff recommendation. Hazy golden color. Aroma of gooseberries (haha, I have absolutely no idea what a gooseberry is, let alone what one smells like). Maybe aroma has a bit of heather. Taste is like a dry white wine with a bit of pine. Nice stuff.

11.2 ounce bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville, VA on 5/7/10. Pours a hazy orange-yellow color with not much of a head. Aroma of pale bready malts with some faint fruity notes. The taste is bready malts with some syrupy berry notes and a bit of a bitter finish. Medium bodied. Decent, but a bit boring.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy golden color with a trace white head that faded quickly. The aroma was lightly spicy and wheaty with a vague berry presence. The flavor was dry, spicy and woody with notes of pepper and vague berry. Medium finish. Medium body. Disappointing.
