El Monstruo del Norte is the third oak-aged collaboration between North Peak Brewing Company and Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales. We took North Peak’s Gnarl (Chestnut Amber Ale) and combined it with around 40% of La Roja (Sour Amber Ale) and then aged it for 4 months in oak before securing this beast in bottles.
This Wild Red Chestnut Ale is medium in body and boasts a beautiful copper-hue. Filled with roasty sweetness, blending caramel notes with subtle chestnut flavors, and finishing with a moderate bright citrus-like acidity.

This is the story of those weapons.

Draught @ SKAAL Sønderborg. Pours hazy reddish copper brown with small light tan head. Clear aroma of pumpkin, with notes of yeast and touches of malt and fruit. Dry, vinous flavour with touches of yeast and pumpkin and fruity hints. Dry and pumpkinny aftertaste with estery touches. Decent, but the carbonation is rather low.
Lots of Woody funk, oak, nuttiness (but I wouldn’t say chestnut specifically). Rich deep brown, light finish

On tap at Jolly Pumpkin, pours a hazy dark amber with a small beige head. Aroma reveals lots of wild yeast, barnyard funk, and I suppose, some toasted chestnuts. Flavour is along the same lines, with wild yeast, toasted chestnuts, herbal notes, and a little funk. Cohesive and well-balanced but not all that complex. Good.

Sampled from the tap at the Detroit location. Pours a clear earthy amber with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has tart stone fruits and light chestnut with a bit of funk and oak supporting. Flavor has a combination of chestnut and tart stone fruits with earthy grains and oak backing.
