Here in Louisiana, what might look like oranges are what we call satsumas — and it takes more than 100 pounds of these juicy little fruits to craft one small batch of Faubourg Dat’suma IPA. This special brew will refresh and inspire you while you reminisce about the good ole’ days, when you used to peel these suckers on your Mee Maw’s front porch.

So, I hear a satsuma is a semi-seedless, easy-peeling citrus, sometimes called a miyagawa, unshu mikan, unshiu, mandarin or a naartjie. Come on dudes, just say what you mean, its a stupid ass tangerine; get with it. From a green can, the eye is a pale orange slightly hazy brew. Nose is IPA with hints of orange perfume. First taste is one big giant bitter astringent phenolic bite and bang in the palate. This stuff is artificially way too bitter. Before I looked it up, and after I tasted this BS, I thought a satsuma was another word for an old, weather beaten rubber inner tube; because that's what this tastes like. Combine said inner tube with some orange perfumed hand soap, then mix it together with some pine tar sap & dieseled turpentine, in a blender, and drink it - then you get the feel of this stuff. I see its not as mouth coating as most viscous IPA, but that doesn't cover up the exacting rudeness of this nasty Nellie of an IPA beer. At least its got an almost mind numbing kick to be appreciated, after it insults my lager loving taste buds. So, I guess I can finish dah can.

On tap @A la Cart in Orlando with Got & his lovely wife. Unusually dark amber, clear, weak lace, tulip. Smell is sharp malt & significant bitter mandarin peel. Taste is danky hops coated in more than expected mandarin. Nearly dry, it's more like a hoppy red ale with a lot of lingering mandarin oil. This is great.

Can at Black Penny. Pours a hazy orange gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of orange with light rind and a touch of grain backing. Flavor has a great orange and citrus combination with a touch a grain underlying.
