The "i" might be in lower case, but beware - this is a capital beer. Brimming with luscious roasted coffee and chocolate malt flavours drizzled over a scoop of velvety ice cream. iStout Affogato is balanced by a brisk bitterness and bold, hoppy freshness, remixed by the addition of lactose, coffee, and vanilla in the brew.

(Keg at Pikkulintu Ruttopuisto, 20191022) The beer poured black. Its head was small and lightly brown. Aroma had burnt malts, lactic sweetness and vanilla. Palate was full bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were burnt malts, vanilla, lactic sweetness, dark chocolate, ash and bitterness. Aftertaste was burnt, sweet and bitter. A decent but too sweet brew with burnt notes.

Tall can from Brewcraft at home. Rich black pour with dissipating tan head. Aroma is burnt sugar, wood, coffee, raisin. Taste is sort of like an affrogato - creamy vanilla sweetness with rich dark roasted coffee. Quite sweet. Palate is rich but not syrupy. Lots and lots of coffee, but could be more bitter to balance. On the edge of being a tiny bit cloying. Good heavy coffee imperial stout.

440ml can. Pours black with a tan head, decent retention. Aroma of coffee, vanilla, chocolate. Taste is sweet, vanilla, chocolate, bitter roasted coffee, dark malts, very creamy, very smooth, booze is completely hidden. Full body, soft carbonation. Every bit as good as the original. Fantastic.

From a 440ml can on 28/2/2019. Pours close to black with a medium head. Has a strong aroma of coffee with some vanilla in the background. Tastes of the promised coffee and vanilla, along with a good dose of milk chocolate. Has a real milky/ice cream dessert like character to it, but there's a distinct if relatively subtle roasty bitterness which balances things out very nicely. Has a slightly creamy texture, with softish carbonation. A very good and impressive brew, as is generally par for the course for 8 Wired.
