The "i" might be in lower case, but beware - this is a capital beer. Brimming with luscious roasted coffee and chocolate malt flavours drizzled over a scoop of velvety ice cream. iStout Affogato is balanced by a brisk bitterness and bold, hoppy freshness, remixed by the addition of lactose, coffee, and vanilla in the brew.

(Can) Pours black with a small mahogany coloured head. Aroma of coffee, dark roast grains and a hint of vanilla. Full bodied, thick and creamy with fine bright carbonation. Rich, dark, bitter taste. Black coffee, black treacle, burnt sugar, notes of vanilla and cream. Unusual, powerful, an experience.

Can. Black with a loose inch + brown head that doesn’t last all that well. Big coffee and roasty aroma , some brioche behind. Full, smooth body w lowish carbonation. Crucially for me the lactose might be part of iced coffee or be lurking behind the texture but it does not register separately. There’s nice but unspectacular coffee but the way it sits with the heavy roast and creamy sweetness works really well - particularly when everything except the fruity and spicy top notes are lifted away at the end. Very good. Dangerously drinkable.

440ml can. Jet black colour with small to average, thick, creamy, very slowly osteoporosing, moderately lacing, tan head. Roasty, dark malty aroma, notes of coffee (here could be a point to implant a ratecoffee section: 'coffee' in this case comprises mocha, mocha powder, a touch of liquorice root, burnt walnut), some dark chocolate, a touch of vanilla. Taste is roasty and chocolately dark malty, notes of mocha, coffee, mocha chocolate, Belgian chocolate, lactose, some vanilla, a touch of liquorice root, white coffee, hazelnut-flavoured white coffee, a bitter counterpart combines aspects of hop and coffee bitterness. Oily to viscous texture, smooth, soft, minimally cloying palate, minimally prickly carbonation, lingering mocha finish.

Can at home. Has a dark brown to black colour with a beige head. Aroma of coffee beans, soy sauce, roasted malt, ash and dark chocolate. Flavour of coffee beans, dark chocolate, ash and lots of roasted malt. Has a slick and a little soft mouth feel, full-bodied and a medium bitterness. Well roasted and tasteful. Can't find the lactose and vanilla though.
