Sheppy’s Vintage Reserve Cider is produced from entirely home-grown apples. It is a blend of one year’s harvest of the highest quality bittersweet apples such as Chisel Jersey, Yarlington Mill, Stoke Red and Tremlett’s Bitter. It is fermented and then matured in oak vats to achieve its fine, award winning full bodied flavour.

Yellow to golden colour. Oak in aroma noticeable. Initially sweet, but sourness responds very quickly. Wood notes with bitterness slowly come to overwhelm in the finish. Superb

This was labelled as Sheppys Vintage Reserve 2009 Oak Matured 7.4% ABV. Pure gold clear colour with a collar of white bubbles. Lovely scrumpy cider aroma. Fullness in mouth and good dryness and tannin on the finish. Tasty strong cider where the alcohol doesn’t show up too much. Oak isn’t too prevalent. But this is a decent supermarket cider with plenty of character and flavour and a good gum hitting bite on the finish. I liked it.

Bottle. Golden cider with a light head. The aroma is quite dry and vinous and the flavour is vinous, warming and quite bitter. Overall a very nice cider.

Bottle from Sainsbury, Kidlington, 02-07-09 Pours lemony gold with fast disappearing white head. Oak is present on nose. Good tangy cider, the apples have been softened out by the oak aging. Very, dry at the end with tannins settling around the gums. Easy drinking despite the abv, nicely tangy, not too sharp, good apple and oaky combination. I really liked this and was a touch dismayed to see that it hadn’t scored higher than it has. A7 A4 F8 P4 Ov15 3.8

Bottle from Sainsburys. Deep gold with little carbonation. Aroma of tart apples with some yeast. Flavour had plenty of apple juice, but lacked the character of the other ciders sampled from this producer, ending with a run of the mill dryness. Given the ABV, this lacked character.
