Inspired by Spike Island, we brewed something black, bitter and angry. It has rye, because Spike insists that every beer should have rye. It has patriotic hops like Cascade, Citra and Amarillo. We then dry hopped it until the hops wouldn’t fit in the fermenter anymore.

Bottle from O’Brien’s, Athlone [080617]
Very dark brown, frothy tan head
Aroma of soft herbal piney hops, hint of burnt toast
Taste of roasted malts, bitter herbal hops, pine hops, dab of burnt toast, spicy note in there, more dark sweet malts as it warms up
Palate - Soft carb, medium body, fairly bitter hops and roast. Finish of piney hops, more dark malts, quite bitter, hint of coffee roast
Overall - Robust BIPA, no citrus in this, more pine, soft herbal and roasted

33 cl. bottle @ home, gift from Alex and Susanne. Pitch black with a small tan head. Roasted malt (coffee, chocolate) and hop aroma. Taste is medium sweet, body is medium. Nice black IPA but it could be more intense. This take on the style is a bit on the safe side, both with the malts and the hops, although quite tasty.

Very solid. Hoppy, malty, some sharpness from the rye.

Draught in Alfie Byrnes. Blackish brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of dark fruit and hop. Flavour is toasted malt, spiced fruit, a little burn at the back of the throat. Lingering bitter juice finish, a lot of flavour that really lingers.
