500 mL bottle from Asheville Wine Market. Pours a hazy golden color with a large frothy slightly off-white head. Average head retention. Aroma of sweet malts, toastiness and a bit of rye. The taste is big rye notes, bready malts, caramel. Medium bodied, low carbonation and a bit too sweet.

Bottle from Holiday Wine Cellar in Escondido, CA. Pours amber/gold with a foamy white head. Fruity aroma. Medium body with average carbonation. Flavor is fruity, even suggesting a bit of grape. Mild malt, and slight bitter. Very clean and refreshing.

Bottled(500ml). -as Schlägl Bio Roggen. Dark golden coloured, medium sized airy white head, stale barnyard nose. Vinous malty, strong rye and weak hoppy taste with not so pleasant tart finish. So far my worst rye beer.

A bottle from Julius Meinl in Vienna, 2006. Dark golden color, slightly cloudy. Good head, fine bubbles. Aroma of malt, seems close to barley malt, a bit sweet. Very different, interesting taste. Malty and a bit sweet, deep malt flavor, but also good hops and a dry finish. Rye flavor is definitely there. Very nice, rather light tasting, good carbonation, medium to slightly heavier body. Interesting. I would suggest upping the rye content a touch to make its flavor more pronounced.

Clear golden beer with a disappearing white head. Bready aroma with some metal and a yeast note. Malty flavour with bready rye, but not a lot.

Bottled. (now renamed to just "Schlägl Roggen") Pale amber. Vague bubblegum aroma. Sweet and clean, lightly bready. Fruity and straight forward. The malt profile is less attractive than in Schlägl's other beers, and the bready rye flavour doesn't really compensate this.
