The Norns are female beings from Norse Mythology, who are said to rule the fate of Gods and men by weaving together the past, present and future. Our Nornir Series features Urd (past), Verdandi (present) and Skuld (future).⁣

Our first release in the series, Skuld, is fermented in foeder with a house strain of Saison yeast and Brettanomyces. After fermentation, Skuld was dry hopped generously with Nelson Sauvin, lending notes of fresh citrus and gooseberry to a rustic, oak forward saison.

Opaque, bubbly head, quite phenolic aroma, also floral, bit of pale malt. Mellow tartness that actually doesn’t work…needs some bugs to give it texture because right now it’s only sweet malt, and the beer’s a bit unbalanced as a result.

On tap at House of Funk, pours a cloud bright yellow with a medium white head. Aroma brings out rustic saison yeast, moderate farmhouse funk, and some gooseberry notes. Flavour really brings out the Nelson Sauvin hops beautifully. There's rustic saison yeast and gentle funk underneath, on top of which the Nelson really shines, imparting a slightly white wine-like, floral, and berry-like hop character. Deeper down, there seems to be some minor traces of phenols that I can't imagine are intentional, and this detracts a bit from what is otherwise an excellent beer. Overall, very good.

Cloudy yellow body and some modest foam, smells of very soft orangey sweet pine. Flavour is nice sweet vegetal hops, hints of pine. Oily but still refreshing, nothing complex here and it's decent enough.
