RUM EDITION
Rum is a perfect match for the deliciously complex Chimay Grande Réserve, adding an amazing tropical twist to the mix. Aromas of dried fruit, apricot and peach combine beautifully with this beer’s intense caramel, chocolatey flavour. Bold oak, vanilla, orange and brown candy sugar, the typical accents delivered by rum casks, are layered with subtle notes of hazelnut and almond. The aftertaste has ripe banana and a surprising aromatic burst of spice bread. A superb assemblage, with the distinct and elegant aroma of rum as a backbone.

French oak, American oak, and rum. The rum really stands out. Not as sweet as the standard Chimay. Boozy. I don't usually buy these but I saw a small bottle for a decent price. Would not want a big bottle of this.

375 ml corked & caged bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. Bottled 02/2021. ABV is 10.5%. Deep ruby to mahogany colour, moderate off-white head. Distinct aroma of rum, caramel, brown sugar and oak. Slightly warming mouthfeel. The flavour has the same elements as the aroma, some vanilla too, but the rum dominates a tad too much, very few elements remain of the original Grand Reserve / Bleu. A good beer, anyway.

Y020222. Dark brown color with a beige head. Aroma is alcohol,nuts, rhum. Flavor is sugar, dried fruit, caramel, alcohol ,nuts, rhum, malt, raisin, floral, berries. Powerful nice beer.

Bottle, 375ml corked. 2021 vintage. A foggy dark chestnut to brown beer topped by a beautiful beige head. Some lacing. The aroma is rather perfumed, with nutty, chocolatey malts, flowers and some almond. Alcohol hints and some berries. It's full-bodied and warming, wonderfully carbonated, with a base flavor of nuts, toffee, dark dried fruits and a touch of dark chocolate. Some wood and flowers. Marzipan hints. Lasting finish. Nice indeed, but way too flowery and perfumed. Especially perfumed. Still no big problem finishing the glass. 220202

reddish brown colour, large, dense beige-ish head, which lasts for several minute; aroma of dried sour cherry and plum, apple peel, caramel, cocoa, walnut cake, slight smoke and oak barrel notes; taste has the same notes with unripe fruity, hoppy bittery, some vanilla and spicy alcoholic notes; excellent as expected!

Bräunlich rötliche Farbe mit weißer Schaumkrone. Prägnant malziger, fruchtiger Geruch. Geschmacklich malzig, fruchtig mit Trockenfrüchten & Karamell, deutlich spürbarer Alkohol. Hohe Süße mit leichter Bitterkeit, voller Körper mit spürbarer Kohlensäure.

Man man man, is dit nou het nieuwe niveau van een vatgerijpt BA trappist ? Bek vol met koolzuur, weinig tot geen barrel, wel wat rum, maar kom op zeg.. hier een 3.25 voor de moeite…

75cl bottle from Comptoir des Fagnes (bought 20/03/2021, bottled 02/2021, bottle no. 17.533/20.000) as my beer #7000. F: big, tan, long lasting. C: brown with red hue, clear. A: rich malty, toffee, vinous, caramel, violet, banana, dried fruits, rum touch. T: full malty base, caramel, mellow banana, warming alcohol, woody, violet, raisins, dried figs, bit vanilla, rum touch, medium carbonation, another nice Chimay BA I suppose good for ageing.

Mörkt rödbrun med bra skum. Söt doft med inslag av farin. Sötklibbig smak med inslag av kola och farin. Spritig finish med inslag av rom och ekfat. Helt ok men bör nog lagras ett par år.
