0.5l bottle @ Henrik, Bergen shared with ClubGonzo and InBreak. This is a clear dark cola-colored beer with a small bubbly and sidesticking dark beige head. Aroma has notes of dark malts, some caramel, thin coffee, earthy tones and some quite distinct milk chocolate notes. Not bad actually. Average carbonation, quite thin and light-bodied and it has a somewhat watery mouthfeel. Light roasted and malty flavors. Mild caramel with a nice sweetness, hints of sour licorice and it finishes with a mild and both dry and watery finish. Good stuff

Bottle from Peckhams Union Square. It pours jet black with a thin foamy tan head and moderate carbonation. The nose is caramel, roasted malt, liquorice and chocolate. The taste is caramel, milk chocolate, sour tang, roasted malt, coffee and liquorice, with a light roasty finish. Simple and a bit thin, but drinkable nonetheless.

Milder, etwas wässriger Malzantrunk. Im Mittelteil wir das Bier wässriger, das Malz kann kaum zulegen. Dann noch wenig süßlich, etwas stärker bitterschokoladig. OK aber nicht besonders.

50cl bottle from the Home Brew Shop, Aldershot. Deep blackish-brown with an instantly fading white head; the aroma has rich, sweet malts and a hint of smoke; very thin in the mouth, with some purple fruit and chalky grains; the finish is also thin with perhaps a touch of Vimto. Disappointing overall.

50cl bottle. Poured dark brown color with a beige frothy head with a nice lacing. Aroma is caramel and chocolate. Flavor is roasted malt, chocolate and some rye notes. Thin to medium body. Finish is somewhat dry. Decent. Felt more like a porter to me.

[500ml bottle from brewer’s own stand at the Good Food Show 2009, NEC, Birmingham] Despite the name, it’s actually a deep ruby-brown. It’s got a large, lasting tan head and a slight fizz. There’s an aroma of treacle, smoke and malted milk biscuits. In the mouth it’s smokey and dry, with coffee and liquorice coming through. There’s a little fruity sourness in the background, but ultimately it’s a dry ashiness that dominates a beer that’s a little too thin to carry it off.

Bottle from Oddbins. Black pour with a light tan head. Aormas of smoke, raisins, cinammon, chocolate and coffee. Flavours of dried fruits, coffee, chocolate, vanilla. Malty, dry finish. Not bad.

Bottle at home on 10th May 2010. Pours almost black with quickly falling brown head. Roasted malts - notes of coffee and slight smokiness. Black pepper and allspice present. Rich, bittersweet aftertaste.

Bottle:Almost clear, deep chestnut-amber coloured, stable mid-sized beige head, leaving a little lace; not extremely dry roast-malty nose with sweetish aromas of dried fruits (blackcurrant) underneath; moderate bitter-sweet flavour, medium bodied; drier, slightly ashy, burnt-malty finish, followed by a well balanced bitterness. Fine, pleasant......

15th July 2008. Very dark brown beer. The label describes the nose as from the ’late harvest cone hops’ which is spot on! The hops provide an undertone to a robust minerally malt with a subtle note of bubblegum. Dry slightly roasty finish. Fairly complex and very drinkable!
