Bottle from Drinkstore, Dublin [231213]
Black, big frothy beige head with good lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, quite spicy hops. Taste of mellow roasted malts, dark malts, plain chocolate, very slight coconut, soft spicy hops, dab of espresso. Palate - soft bitter, less sweet than I expected. Soft carbonation, medium body, good smooth bit waxy texture - maybe due to the coconut. Finish of mellow bitter roasted malts, quite dry, some bitter dark chocolate, bit more coconut in the finish, fairly bitter long roast tail, getting some coffee grounds too - seems the coconut has been roasted a bit? Overall - After drinking Stewart’s Coconut Porter on cask which is like a molten Bounty bar, I’m not really getting much coconut but it’s certainly giving the beer a good texture. Compared to the Stewart and Maui, it’s the most bitter (I’d prefer more sweetness). As a normal porter, it’s quite decent.
