McEwan’s IPA can trace its heritage back to the 1860s ale that was made for the 18,000 mile journey to India. Copper brown, small off-white head. Woody, burnt caramelly aroma. Toffeeish, burnt flavor. Light, sweetish aftertaste. Only IPA by its name.

(Bottle 33 cl) Beautiful amber beer with a rather limited head. Soft, caramel notes with a weak sweetness and a touch of smoke. Limited bitterness. Decent but rather average. 210900

A very boring IPA, in my opinion... a shame, since their Scotch ale is one of my favorites. Little smell, little flavor, other than some tingly hoppiness. Plain as hell. =(

Pours a surprisingly brownish color with a little bit of a head that quickly goes away. Aroma is weak and hard to pin down... Taste is a bit watery. Floral and nut flavors come through (weakly) followed by a bit of acid and a little hoppy bitterness. It feels like an IPA light or something. Pleasant, but not quite on the mark.

Clear brownish amber in color with a sticky white head. Malty aroma with just a tinge of citric sourness. The flavor starts slightly sweet ands with a bit of dryness, but no hops ever come to the front. Body is a bit thin. Not an IPA or a Bitter. More suited to being an Amber ale.

Pours a dark red with a white head. No real aroma and the flavor is weak,weak and weak! This is a IPA? There are no hops in here at all? This is not even a plae ale. blah!

22 ounce can. Opens up with a dry and bitter hoppy bite. Warms up slightly with some type of pale or crystal malt providing more depth. Hops are quite flavorful and slightly rusty/metallic in flavor. Overall has a medium body and good carbonation level. Finishes very light however as the hops trail off. Reminds me of Stone's products. Interesting that it doesnt taste of cascades. Would benefit from more malting.

Cheers to Holdwine who rated this right before me. I was at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington on the fourth of July, and this was available from the 'Scottish' tent, so I quickly had one. I initially thought I might fancy it because of the IPA, but after reading it on this site i'm happy it is correctly categorised. Darker brown colour with no head, this was from the tap. Definately malty but pretty well balanced with hops...a good aftertaste and decent body & carbonation. Not a great beer, but there was really nothing wrong with this beer at all. It was either this or Newcastle at this location, and I chose this, because Newcastle is very common and not too great. Definately worth trying, to say the least!

Clean amber color. Difficult to believe it's a real IPA, with such poor character, from the aroma to the flavor, with an uncommon white sugar note mixed with some malt; the bitterness is just sufficient, and no hop aroma. Still some sweetness in the palate, along with the bitterness (artificial sweetners?).

An amber beer with a fine head thogh fast disappearing. The aroma is slightly fruity with hints of spices. It has a good malt sweetness, but is only slightly bitter - not like an IPA - but OK for a light ale.
