Named after the Dorset Horn ram that lived in the brewery stables in Wandsworth, and on which the Young’s trademark is based – a proven symbol of Young’s brewing heritage and a firm favourite with drinkers for over 30 years.
Ram Rod is a 100% malt brew with Maris Otter and Crystal malt and Fuggle and Golding hops.

275 ml (is that all?) bottle at the Prince of Wales, Bromham. Copper colour, little obvious carb or head. Enjoyable caramel malt scent marred by a metallic hint in the aroma. Taste a bit metallic as well, but also bittersweet and well-balanced. Carbonation more obvious in the mouthfeel. Passable, but maybe not the best bottle? I prefer the cask (although I haven’t seen it in 7 or 8 years).

Bouteille 500ml, courtoisie d’un contact de Victoria, BC. De couleur ambrée-cuivrée et claire. Nez légèrement fruité (agrumes, léger de poires), moyen de caramel doux aux notes de butterscotch, léger de houblon floral et terreux avec des notes de noix. Moyenne-mince en bouche avec un pétillement moyen ainsi qu’une texture aux notes huileuses. Goût très légèrement fruité (agrumes légèrement sucrées, traces d’abricots et de raisins) avec un moyen-léger goût amer de houblon plutôt terreux (présent en arrière-goût toute la gorgée) lors de l’entrée en bouche auquel se rajoute un goût de caramel très doux avec de très faibles notes de butterscotch et de pain puis en finale l’on retrouve de très faibles notes de noix et un houblon plus herbeux. Post-goût moyen, légèrement amer de houblon légèrement terreux aux notes herbeuses avec un très léger goût de noix. (2005)

Cask@Founders Arms, London. Orangeish golden colour with a mediumsized foamy head. Aroma is citrus, wood, some herbs, mild grass and some crystal malty and bready notes. Flavour is the same, but the maltyness is stronger than in the aroma. Pleasant dry palate along with hoppy bitterness in the finish.

Cask (handpump) @ The Standing Order, 62-66 George St, Edinburgh, Scotland EH2 2LR.Clear medium to dark yellow orange colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted - caramel, light hoppy, fruity, citrus notes. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter with a average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20101029]

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms, Bristol 10/11/10. Red amber with a decent, off-white head. Aroma of hedgerow fruit, caramel and slightly earthy malts. Flavour started sweet, with some orange fruit and a decent bitter finish with a touch of hop. Fine.
