This is a rich, strong ale loaded with classic flavours of dried fruits and a caramel nutty maltiness. While the alcohol content provides a warmth to it, aging has mellowed this to a very smooth, very balanced beer. Warming and complex, this is one to spend time over.
Hops: Challenger, East Kent Goldings, Sovereign.

Clear amber beer, tidy pale tan head. Smooth palate, mildly dry, decent fine carbonation. Pretty light malts for the style, some well rounded cereal sweetness with touches of caramel and cream. Modest spice. Reasonably bright but ripe dried fruits. Smooth finish. Tidy and quite drinkable but lacks maturity and complexity.

Bottle from Daly’s, Boyle [160317]
Chesnut brown, light haze, massive gusher, constant frothing up from bottle for ages
Aroma of soft fruits, caramel malts, some acetone/varnish, alcohol
Taste of sweet caramel malts, soft fruits, toffee, slightly toasty malts, alcohol very prominent
Palate - Medium carb (Very high carb at first!), sweet, no hiding of the booze, tastes more like 10% than 8.5%. Finish of fruity malts, hot alcohol
Overall - Too boozy, not much complexity to the flavour, just fruity caramel malts, huge gusher. Not a big fan of barley wines, but this wasn’t a good example

At a tasting, thanks, small bubbly head, quite hazy very deep orange color, musty aroma with nuts and bread, sweet and alcoholic with some nuts, harsh bitterness. Quite difficult to drink, not good.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Alexey’s place. Thanks zvikar. Hazy orange. Aroma of malt, caramel, honey, stale note, fruits, alcohol. Sweet flavor with malt, honey, fruitiness, toffee, and a bitter alcoholic finish. Medium-bodied.
