Sample at the Columbus Ratebeer gathering at ogglethorp’s 11/20/08: 2005 bottle. This brew pours a cloudy brownish-amber color with a medium thin light beige head that recedes quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Vinous aroma with notes of dark fruit and yeast. Medium body with flavors of concorde grape wine, tart fruits and malt. Some spice and yeast in the background too. The finish is fruity with a light spice aftertaste. Overall this is a fairly complex and enjoyable beer.

750ml bottle. 2005. Cloudy ruby, brown body with a small, off-white head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma, as well as the flavor, is dominated by lacquer and band-aid. Notes of apple, alcohol, caramel and grain and a hint of wood and horse blanket. The flavor is moderately sweet, moderately to heavily acidic, and lightly bitter. Tart, lacquerish (brett), dry finish. Medium body and a watery texture. Little carbonation. A Belgian Strong Ale? Tastes and looks more like a funky, complex barley wine.

Well this wasn’t nearly as good to me compared to the ratings. Dark orange color, barely rouses some bubbles but otherwise no head, no carbonation. Aroma was a sour tannic oakiness, hints of pickled olives. Flavor was sour, thin, and flat. Somewhat tannic and oaky in the finish. High alcohol was very apparent, pretty rough. Unfinishable!

Bottle. [ Courtesy of kmweaver ] Clear medium amber color with a small, fizzy, virtually none, fully diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is vintage, old alcohol, sour malt / sour apple, fruit. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and light bitter with a average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. (271007)

Second time around on this beer, first shared by Hoptimus Prime (hopefully future RBian) at jjpm74’s gathering. This time my buddy Artem bought it for us to drink (some of you RB guys know him) because I can’t put forward the cash on this beer. Long story short this beer is amazing, KNOW THAT!!!! It’s an amalgamate of a Flemish Sour and a very strong Belgian or what I like to consider the first IMPERIAL FLEMISH SOUR. That’s right I coined this term (surprisingly it wasn’t an American who came up with the idea, but the Swiss, huh??? Yeah the Swiss, apparently they know how to make some good beer as well). Neck says the bottle is 0276, nice one of the early fills, yessss. Lets get back to the beer:
Appearance: Thick red body with some dark orange highlights, pretty dark.
Aroma: light vinegar followed by strong musky sour cherries. Heavy with sour-sweetness. Some alcohol heft in aroma as it warms.
Taste is supped up sweet Belgian sticky with some tartness and sweet fruit. A generally thick sticky beer, coooool.
Other: a great creation, strong and sour (btw, not a Barleywine). Low bitterness, lowered carbonation and an amazing beer.

Bottled (thanks Bov!). Dark ambery/coppery colour with small beige head. Aroma is very sour, mostly only sourness. Flavour is extreme sourness as well as some slight hints of soap. Quite unique, but nothing that really blows your mind.

Bottled. Cloudy amber, viscous, minimal head. Lightly lactic acidic nose with muscatgrapes. Sweet and well rounded with massive body. Notes of peppery alcohol, soap and wood. Berryish and fruity. Soft, comples and complicated with some light lactic acidity. Absolutely unique beer.

Hazy nut brown, small mostly vanishing brownish head. Yeast, wood, banana and leather in the nose. Sour, sherry-like palate, acidic berries - flavor is similar to Campari: bitter-fruity. Rounded mouthfeel. Good otherwise but there is some earthy notes which I don’t like so much.
