Saison with Orange Peel, Fennel Seed & Star Anise

This anniversary feels like more of an accomplishment than usual. It was a tough year and we made it through the way everyone did, by carrying on, sticking one foot in front of the other with no map of the road ahead.

We want to thank you for seeing us through a challenging year. We kept brewing new beers, not knowing what the world would be like when the beer was ready, and you kept clearing our shelves, which kept our lights on and our doors open.

Seven is an ethereal saison, fruity and effervescent with a whiff of star anise and fennel, like a faint perfume luring you around the corner to further explore.

Hazy and paleish. Lots of head. On the nose, just a big saison yeast with a bit of floral, herbaceous hops. On the palate, there's a bit of tartness, yeastiness, seems just a little bit more out of control than the usual Dag fare. Drinks fairly big, a bit carbonated, and with a lot of pale malt bread sort of backdrop. Complex, tasty, and on the edge but yet another example of why Dageraad is one of the best purveyors of Belgian-styles ale in the anglophone world.

Very nice foam on a hazy gold body. Aroma is good yeasty cereal, spicy lemon, great use of coriander. Taste is nice yeast and coriander, grapefruit, chewy banana. Ends full and refreshing. Enjoyable, well balanced and refreshing, very well executed.

On tap at Dageraad, pours a vibrant cloudy golden with a large giant white head with long retention. Nose is spicy, with lots of black pepper, spicy rustic saison yeast, a bit of farmhouse character. Flavour beautifully expresses the yeast, with a vibrant rustic farmhouse character, gentle funk, plenty of black pepper, and even a fair bit of residual sweetness that somehow fits. I can't say I detect the fennel or star anise, but maybe that's a good thing. This is really great use of the saison yeast. Vibrant and complex, though I'd like a little less sweetness. Excellent.
