Bottle at BBT 9/2023. Med-full body, med-high carbonation. Fully malty, with lots of roast, high coffee, moderately burnt, ashy. Med-light cocoa. Med-high bitterness, light earthy grassy hops character. Light sweetness, rather in the background. Overall good one, even though there is med-light alcoholic warmth, somewhat detracting from the drinkability.

Dry stout by one of these postmodern German breweries, thanks tderoeck for sharing. Medium thick, moussy, yellowish beige, membrane-lacing head, very dark chocolate brown robe but not entirely black and still carrying a chestnutty hue. Aroma of toasted pecan nuts, strong coffee grounds and strong black coffee, burnt toast, dried prunes, granola, unsugared bitter chocolate, dry leather, blackened currants, charcoal. Dryish onset, some dried fig and prune but generally low in sweetness, lively carb but ‘fine-bubbled’ if you get my drift, rounded toasty, dark-nutty maltiness with lots of coffee-like roasted bitterness, but in a smooth, elegant way. Some charcoal does pop up but nuttiness remains strong and adds smoothness; peppery hops and retronasal notes of old leather and dried prunes keep things interesting. Roasted bitterness does rule supreme here and lasts for a long time – so yes, this is indeed a dry stout, one without frills or unnecessary adornments, a very basic take on the style as it were, but made with German ‘Gründlichkeit’ so to speak. I love a good stout and this certainly is one.

Trocken malziger Beginn, etwas Kaffee. Würzig, bitter, die trockene Malzigkeit nimmt zu, minimal hopfig. Viel Schokolade, trockener Abgang. 9/9/11/9/10/9
