Taking inspiration from the Japanese word 'Kodawari', which means the relentless pursuit of perfection, we embarked on a journey to conceptualise, brew and refine the perfect DDH Pale Ale. Still on this journey, this series seeks to explore the best features of a modern pale ale – vibrant hops, soft malts and a juicy, full-bodied drinking experience.

440ml can. Hazy, yellow-ish, bright golden colour with average to huge, fluffy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Piney, and juicy, citrusy and tropical fruity, hoppy aroma, biscuity pale malty and slightly oaty background, notes of pineapple, orange, mandarine, mango, passion fruit. Taste is slightly bitter, sweet-ish, piney and fruity hoppy, wheaty and oaty malty basis, hints of orange, mandarine, pineapple, some lemon pith, a slightly diluted touch of mango; minimally watery from the second third on, slightly grassy and minimally husky finish. Minimally oily, watery texture, smooth and soft palate, fine and soft carbonation. Light, highly drinkable, becomes a bit weak in the course of degustation (i.e. of a single sip, not while tasting the whole can) - good.

Can at home in Hackney - picked up from the Netil Market shop. Pours unclear orange-gold with a creamy white topping. Medium sweet flavour with grainy pale malts, ripening citrus fruits, low bitterness. Light bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Sweet finish, some biscuits, pale grains, tangerines. Basic but enjoyable.
