This pale ale was brewed in collaboration with the Norwegian brewery, Lervig, and the Norwegian black metal band, 1349. Intended as a partner to the 1349 Black Ale, this pale ale has a bright, citrusy feel, with a spruce-like piney aroma, a zesty malt character and crisp bitterness. Curacao orange peels and lemon peels were added at the end of the boil and it’s been dry-hopped with Equinox hops, which are known for their citrus, tropical and herbal notes. The label art for the bottles is The Nix as a White Horse (1909) by Norwegian artist Theodore Kittelsen.

Bottle at home. Pours hazy amber, nose is toffee, floral, pine, something odd, taste is juicy, sweet, dry finish.

Interesting. It pours a pale, yellow-gold, with good-sized, foamy head. Aroma is very bright and full of citrus. Unfortunately for me, the flavor has that saison-bite that I don’t really care for. It really doesn’t taste very pale ale-like, as far as I’m concerned. Sure, there’s citrus and hop-pine flavors, but they’re overshadowed a bit by that singular, saison aftertaste. Didn’t really care for it that much.

Bottle @ Grill n Chill. Thanks Brad! Hazy golden orange appearance with a tan head. Spicy, herbal, sesame seedy, lemony aroma. A bit chalky, slightly thick mouth feel. Moderate plus bitterness, moderate sweetness. Pretty herbal. Fine.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear gold with an orange hue with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has resin and onion up front with sweet grain and tropical fruit underlying. Flavor is similar with sweet grains, resin and onion as well as a touch of tropical fruit.
