For Vintage Ale 2018 we’ve stayed close to home; all of our ingredients have been sourced from the UK. Tropical, citrus and apricot flavours take centre stage, delivered by Ernest and Olicana hops. Pale ale malt from the finest Maris Otter barley combines with Crystal malt to give the beer a rich biscuit sweetness. As with every Vintage Ale, the flavours of this beer will develop for many years to come, like a fine wine or whisky

500ml bottle. (8.5% ABV) Pours a slightly hazy copper with a medium, creamy, long lasting, khaki head that laces nicely. Sweet aroma of bready malt, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, apricot, orange peel and floral hops. Sweet flavour of bready malt, buttery caramel, butterscotch, golden raisin, apricot, peach, orange peel, earth and light spice with warming alcohol in a dry, mild bitter finish. Medium body with a creamy, smooth, oily texture and soft carbonation. Very nice.

Bottle thanks to allmyvinyl. Appearance - deep amber to red. Nicely proportioned head. Nose - honey and nuts. Light wood thing too. Orange liqueur note coming through. Taste - caramel and wood. Burnt cake. Wood spice. Palate - full bodied and quite dry and austere middle and finish. Overall - this should develop nicely.

Bottle from the Brewery online shop shared with Ashton McCobb. Pours clear amber with a thin off-white head. Aromas of fruit cake, honey, wood, caramel, dried mixed peel. Taste is wood spice and marmalade. Palate is dry, whilst the nose is sweet. Sure this will age nicely.

(Keg(!) at Angleterre, 20181103) The beer poured mahogany coloured and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had malts, caramel, grass and earth. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were grass, earth, caramel, molasses, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty and bitter. A very pleasant malty brew English hops.

Bottle from Vinens Verden. Deep red copper with a thick and lasting off-white head. Malty aroma of bread and biscuit, with fruity hoppy notes of citrus, peach and bubblegum, along with the ever present marmalade. Sweet malty and fruity flavour with good balance from hops, and a touch of alcohol. Above average vintage.

Re-Rate, bottle #104946 at home, 28/12/22 - likely from Waitrose. Hazed golden amber with a good sized light beige cap that stays for the show. Nose is fruit cake, caramel, dates, brown sugar melt,. Taste comprises stewed fruits, toffee, raisins, dates, malt loaf, light spice. Medium bodied with a little bite, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Not a classic vintage but score has risen on this 4 year old from 3.4 to 3.7 compared to the fresh cask rate. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Cask at Beaverex '18, day one, 07/09/18. Murky golden amber with a decent beige covering. Nose is tangy dried fruits, brown bread, sultanas, light spice. Taste comprises stale fruit cake, toffee, dried fruits, brown sugar, dates. Medium bodied with bite, moderate carbonation, semi dyring close with a splash of booze. This was a little lacklustre for a cask Vintage. I normally grab these on cask at GBBF but couldn't be arsed with the queue this year ... condition here wasn't great IMHO. Will revisit via bottle in a couple of years time.
