There are no bears on Salt Spring... Matadors? Maybe. Allow us to present our Salt Spring take on the classic ’ESB’ style. Featuring an aromatic charge of whole-cone hops, championed by dashingly sauve organic malts, this balanced and delicious beer is excellent on its own, or paired with classic pub fare.

Poured from the tap. Clear reddish brown with small off white head. Mild sweet maltiness with some bitter dryness in the finish. Okay.

Okay murky copper body and some decent foam. Smells of soft honey and caramelly malt. Taste is soft sweet biscuit, honey hints, graham cracker. Smooth finish. Checks the boxes off but not greater than the sum of its parts.

On tap at VCBW Festival 2016, pours a hazy orange amber with a small white head. Aroma and flavour bring out English malts, bready notes and light diacetyl. Pretty forgettable but not too messed up. Meh.

650 ml bottle. Pours a copper/orange with light head. Hoppy to the nose with some malt aromas. Roasted malts, some toffee and orange flavours with a soft finish. Light for an ESB but well balanced.
