Raspbarrel is a sour ale aged on whole raspberries. It's produced by filling two of our barrel fermenters with 200lbs of raspberries each. We then fill the barrel with sour golden ale. Once fermentation kicks in, a series of punch downs is done to get as much raspberry flavor into the beer as possible.

Poured from a 375 ml bottle. Aroma is dominated by raspberry character. It’s like sniffing a jar of preserves. Some light skin and leafy notes with a bit of citrus. Medium light acidic notes. Pours a hazy, purple red with a forced, small, thin, white head that recedes quickly and disappears. No lacing or legs. Flavor is moderately acidic with a medium light sweetness. So much raspberry character. Some light citrus notes in the acidity. Faint oak. A touch of a leafy, herbal phenolic note. But on the whole this is just dominated by raspberry notes. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice beer but very one dimensional. I think the complexity on the cranberry beer was better, but this one isn’t like drinking the sludge from the bottom of a barrel. Acidity is well balanced which is nice.

375 ml bottle. The color of the beer is a deep magenta. It’s opaque nearly to the edges, a full glass of color. Small pinkish head, just a narrow layer of bubbles that fizzles away quickly. No lacing. The aroma is absolutely full of raspberry. It’s juicy and seedy and jammy. Very good fruit flavor. Mild lactic note. Gentle acidity in the aroma. Light oak in the background adds some light vanilla. Some funk depth but the raspberries get in the way of that. The taste has the most acidity of an American Solera beer that I’ve had so far, but it’s still much gentler than you typically find in an American raspberry sour. Tangy but not overwhelming or harsh at all. A little vinegar in the finish but it’s held in check. Mild oak bitterness. Reminds me of Crooked Stave’s raspberry stuff. Wonderful beer.

Bottle. Pours a hazy pink with small off white head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is strong raspberry, oak, light funk. Thin, nice tartness, low acidity, strong raspberry, really enjoyed this.
