Bottle. Very small head with short duration. Color is ruby/brown. Aroma and taste are rich malt, plums, raisin, caramel and syrup. Oily palate.

275 ml nip bottle, at London Pub, Aalborg. ABV was 8.1%. Dark ruby colour, minimal beige head. Low carbonation. Intense aroma of malts, molasses, caramel and oak. The flavour has loads of malty sweetness, molasses, fruity, vinous and oaky notes (port wine, sherry), low bitterness.

Bottle that was very kindly passed onto me by Nigel at Hopshackle Brewery, consumed recently, thanks Nigel Pours ruby red in colour, looks good. There is plenty of rich toffee on the nose and in the mouth, lovely chewiness to this. Its rich, sweet, and the alcohol shows, but its very tasty stuff. A7 A5 F7 P4 Ov14 3.6

Bottle. Dark amber colour with a beige head. Aroma is fruit, alcohol, caramel, malt. Flavour is fruit, alcohol, caramel, hop, oxidation, dried fruits. Complex beer.

Bottle, 275ml, best before October 2009. It pours a ruby-colored, clear body under a nice but small beige head. Malty nose with an alcohol touch. Dried fruits and oxidation as well. Sweet, warming and full-bodied, with flavors of dried fruits and caramel, some oxidation too, in a good way. Pleasant sweet finish. A really complex night-cap style english barley wine. Nutty, caramel aroma with prunes, alcohol and a faint meaty touch. Some cellar hints as well. The flavor has a nice sweetness, almost syrupy, but in a nice way. Dried fruits, nuts and caramel too. Lasting finish with a nice but subtle bitterness. A true classic this one, tasteful and complex, well suited as a night cap or with nuts and dried fruits. 110624

Clear golden amber with a medium beige head. Sweet aroma with roasted malt, caramel, dark overripe fruits and toffee. Flavour was cloying sweet with caramel, roasted malt, toffee and dark fruits. Sweet finish.

Bottle. Deep amber coloured pour with virtually no head at all. Nice aroma of dark fruit, caramel, port. Tastes very festive, dark fruit, sweet, caramel, raisins, oranges. A jolly nice warming Christmas ale from Harveys.

Bottle. Frothy off-white fair mostly deminishng head. Nice amber colour. Heavy malty and light hoppy aroma. Light swet and moderate bitter kandis flavor. Very vinius and caramellic. Long nice finish. Creamy palate. One dimensional barleywine.

Cask-conditioned at the Royal Oak, London SE1. Reddish-brown in colour with a slight, off-white head. Sweet aroma of caramel, earthy hops, wood and spice. Flavour of barley sugar, red fruits, oak, the house yeast and spice, with a hoppy, dry finish. A great beer on a cold day.

Cask at Charlie’s Pub, Copenhagen
Dark amber to brown color, hazy; a few lonely bubbles on the surface. The aroma is mild, vinous. It has a good body structure, very rich caramel flavor and malt, quite sweet, with a light woody astringency, light wine sourness that brings also a light fruitness; if possible, in the end there are some very light spices. The bitterness is quite high; the alcohol is present only as mouth warmer. Lovely.
