Bottle from an online shop, drunk after a nice homemade Bolognese with lots of pecorino. Color is dark brown with a hint of dark red; small head. Nose is a bit nutty, grainy, earthy with no hint of rum (though it's quite cold). Flavor has a bit more rum, there's some of that cane sugar sweetness and a bit of oak. Pretty good, moderate complexity, smooth bitter character.

Reddish brown with a small foamy tan head. Perfumey and slightly astringent with toasty malt, dark fruit, caramel, rum and tobacco Long finish. Medium body.

Bottle from local Asda. Nose is dominated by alcohol – presumably rum, along with fruitcake. Pours a dark burgundy with a tight cream head. In the mouth, the tongue gets dark fruits, plums, cherries and raisins, whilst the roof of the mouth records the alcoholic strength. Sweetness, soft carbonation, vanilla and butter slip somewhere between. Spices come out in the finish. One for sipping slowly on a winter’s evening – delightful.

33cl bottle from Stonemanor, The British Store near Brussels. F: medium, tan, not long lasting. C: dark brown, light hazy. A: malty, bit rum, woody, bit vanilla, caramel, bit red berries. T: medium to full malty base, woody, vanilla, caramel, rum touch, mellow fruity yet almost dry on the palate, soft carbonation, quite nice, enjoyed.

Pours a deep mahogany brown with a tinge of redness to it, a nice frothy off-white head and a brown sugar sweetness to the aroma. Medium bodied, with a sweet malt flavour and a touch of bitterness, there's a hint of spice in the finish

From a bottle pours dark like a dunkle. Red? I IDK. Aroma of mild whisky. Taste initially is a little too much likker booze and then it mellows out a bit. Some interesting peat and spice starts to come thru, gets more like a gentleman but never quite gets there. Big strong red beer middle. Except for a hint of whisky backbone, you'd never know this was a higher alky brew. Bold yet softly spiced. Interesting finish, like a jet coming to stop down the runway. In the end, its got too much rum barrel in it, but what do I know? After all, I think it turns out just a littlenbetter than expected for this I&G company.

Clear deep ruby brown colour, small fizzy off-white head, mostly diminishing, light lacing. Aroma sweet malt, dark fruit, wood, rum, vanilla. Smooth taste medium to light heavy sweet, slightly bitter, malty, fruity, wood, light vanilla. Retronasal wood rum and vanilla, medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, sweetbitter aftertaste, malty notes, lingering wood-vanilla notes, lacks some depth, easy to drink, all in all very nice.

Bottle. Pours clear dark copper brown with airy but stable light tan head. Clear aroma of malt and caramel, with clear notes of barrel and yeast and touches of hops. Bitter, roasty and hoppy flavour with sweetish touches of caramel malt and fruit and peaty and barrellike notes. Nutty and estery aftertaste with peaty and acidic touches. A decent one for the style. Thank you, Rita!
