Can from Glasbanken, bought in March 2021. Black with a small tan head. Sweetish with roasted malt, some dried fruit, chocolate, licorice and hints of ash. A decent one.

Pours black with a tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, chocolate, cocoa, lactose, vanilla, coffee, alcohol and licorice. Taste is medium to heavy sweet and light to medium bitter with a long warm, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, lactose, roasted and licorice finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Imperial stout in American style, as interpreted by Virginian craft brewery Adroit Theory, popping up increasingly frequently in Western Europe these days. Creamy, membrane-lacing, mocha-beige, closed and stable head on a pitch black beer. Aroma of cappuccino, melting 'fondant' chocolate, chocolate liqueur hint, walnut bread, cola, rainwater, burnt sugar, bubblegum, candyfloss. Sweet onset, fig jam and candied dates, softly carbonated with thick, syrupy mouthfeel; sweet toffeeish, milk-chocolatey and candied pear-like middle with a 'blood-like' iron touch around the edge. Roasted bitterness remains very soft and cappuccino-ish, but cola, chocolate and treacle sweetness prevails, also because hop bitterness has equally been kept low. Unsurprisingly ends with a warming, whisky-like alcohol glow. Well constructed, but why does American style imperial stout have to be so damn sweet all the time? I was sincerely hoping for more dryness and roastiness - but then I guess Adroit Theory was not the right brewery to find that, as I have the impression that most of their beers are too much inclined to sweetness. This seems like the basis for a pastry stout - without the added aromas - rather than true imperial stout the historical way. The result of the craft beer upsurge of all those years, I'm afraid. In short: enjoyable in little sips but overall way too sweet for me, like most of Adroit Theory's beers.

Clear red brown to purple brown beer, small creamy beige head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: malty, grains, cow fodder, heavy roast. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: very malty, grains, cow fodder, very bitter, strong roast, metallic touch, lots of alcohol, hoppy. Aftertaste: bitter hops, very roasted, bit sweet, lots of alcohol.

Pours black / Dark brown. no real head. Scent is soy sauce, roasty. Taste is full, roasty, chocolate, mild booze. Rather bitter (trough the roast) . Medium thick body. medium low carbo. OK. To soy-like for me.

ABV: 12.0%. Cloudy dark black brown colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting to diminishing, light beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, dark malt, caramel, wood, dark fruit, moderate coffee - chocolate. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and light bitter with a long duration, roasted, dark malt, wood, chocolate - coffee, sweet malt, caramel. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is warming and light alcoholic. [20210526]
