Can from BiervanEijk, Frederiksoord. Aroma is dark malt, strong raisin, caramel, oak, red wine, fudge, roasted malt, chocolate, hint of mocha and coffee. Flavour is medium sweet with a mild bitterness, a little booze in the finish. Full body, nicely thick. Quite delicious, wonderful collaboration!

Can 33 cl. Pours syrupy thick, black with an orange hue and next to no head. Oily curtains in the glass. Raisiny nose, overripe fruit and oxidation. Surprisingly not very heavy, flavor notes as above paired with molasses. Dry though, not sweet as the pour hinted. Plummy and mushy. Warming finish - if it doesn't exactly feel like 16%. Almost flat. Lovely! 220323

Canned, 330 ml shared with Miro B, Max and JFK10000. Dark brown, small beige head. Chocolate, caramel, barrel, some red wine, ash, alcohol, sweet, medium bodied. Full bodied. Seemed like a mess at first, but got better as it warmed up.

Can. Color: Black, very thin light brown head. Aroma: Sweetish, malty, fudge, red wine, some raisins. Taste: Full body. Smooth mouthfeel. Dark malt, some roasted malt, toffee, fudge, fruity notes of raisins and red wine. Bit boozy, but not as much as you would expect. Medium sweet, lightly vinuous tart, light bitterness. Some wood. Bit sticky. Long lasting dry-ish finish. Nice complexity, bit sweetish but nicely balanced, very nice slow sipper.

Collab of Dutch Rock City with Estonian Lehe, an ultra-strong dark barleywine aged on wine barrels. Can obtained through Meeki and shared with 77ships. Thin, pale greyish beige, open head, unstable, over a black(ish) beer with hazy mahogany edge. Aroma of soy sauce, wet bitter cocoa nibs, whisky, dry beef stock cubes, cigar ashes, old tea bags, roasted walnuts, marmite, nutmeg, reduced gravy, wodka, dry earth. Very umami in the onset, beef stock cubes galore, soy sauce, hints of dried fig and black olive, softish carb, unsurprisingly very thick oily mouthfeel; deep marmite-, toasted brown bread- and bitter black chocolate-like maltiness, ongoing umami, roasted chicory bitterness in the end, rooty, long and strongly reinforced by obvious booziness, wodka- and gin-like, but lacking in the refinement the wine tends to evoke; woody tannic effects too, strong and drying along with the booze. Not my cup of tea: over the top in booziness, but also in meaty umami effects, with a rather crude result. Could have benefited from a bit more sweetness and a bit less alcohol, I think…
