PX sherry barrel Kriek

This Oude Kriek was macerated with sour cherries for almost eleven months. The lambikken used while macerating were both one- and two-year old. We also used one-, two- and three-year old lambikken from (slightly peated) sherry barrels to blend the sour cherry lambik into a Kriek. By doing so, the weighted average age of this Kriek is a tad less than two-and-a-half years upon release. Final fruit intensity of 354 grams per litre of Kriek. 100% 3 Fonteinen.

Bottle. Deep red color with tiny white head. Aroma is cherries, mild sherry and peat, but not much, also blueberries. It's nice anyway. Taste is good fruit, tart, super balanced. Low carbonation. Nice!

25.03.2022, 0,75l bottle (19/20 vintage, batch #75) @ home:
Tiny bubbly shortlasting head, hazy reddish color. Aroma is slightly sweet sour-ish fruity, sour cherries, dried cherries, berry skin, mild vinegar, grass, fruit stones, oak, vanilla, bark, tiny hints of ash now and then. Taste is slightly dry sour-ish fruity, sour cherries, mild vinegar, sorrel, berry skin, oak, grass, minerals, citrus acid, cherry stones. Medium bitterness, dry sour-ish fruity mouthfeel. Nice.

Bottle split with the Wingmane at Muted Horn, Berlin, 23/07/22. Dark claret red topped with a crimson cap. Nose is tarte red berries, light smoke, vinous, earthy red berries, grains. Taste comprises vinous tones, funk, light smoke, mellow PX spike, subtle peat, cherry skins. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced acidic kiss. Well balanced with the peated aspect ... notable but not taking over.

Sampled at Snallygaster 2023. Dark red, pink head. Spicy and smokey nose. Really unusual for 3F. Big agave and peat in the mouth. It's neat, but I like the classics a touch more.

Bottle. Deep red, no head. Brooding cherry aroma with more prominent than usual medicinal notes. Very low carbonation. Intense sour cherries, old lemon, medicinal notes are more obviously peat. A bit of Bakewell tart. Interesting but less open than others.

Bottle shared with JFE at his place 24.02.23. Dark and cloudy violet. Superb aroma of sour cherries, red currants, lemon juice, rhubarb and peated malt. Absolutely excellent.
