12 ounce can - labeled as 12% abv - someone just entered a bourbon barrel version of this into the database, but previous reviews here mention it being barrel-aged, so I'm not positive where to stick this review, so here we go - hazy dark amber - the golden promise really shines in the nose - big an earthy, and the caramelization brings sweet notes of treacle, toffee, fig - charred, bourbon-soaked oak - flavor is almost exactly as the nose advertises - lots of toffee and treacle - a touch of oxidation - moderate oak and vanilla - moderate bourbon warmth - a slight bit of acidity on the tail end, but still finishing sweet - I love it when I find a more traditional take on the style, which this certainly is (and a well-done one!).

12oz can thanks to Steve. hazy, copper colored pour, small beige head. MMMmmm barley wine, Barrel aged barleywine to boot. Where to start? Aroma is malty, caramel and toffee with a touch of the bourbon barrel. More sweet caramelly flavors with a bit more bourbon, some vanilla and a fair dose of heat. Just lovely for this time of year.

12oz can thanks to Steve pours out amber copper color topped with a sand head. Nose is great burnt caramel toffee bourbon barrel notes. Taste is more of the nice sweet caramel toffee some spice from the bourbon barrel and a touch of vanilla.

Can from Cap Tap. Pours clear copper with a slight white head. Aroma of toffee and floral hop. Arguably full bodied. Flavor is toffee and floral hop. Not dry, but not sticky. A little heat. Not very bitter. Good tasting ale.
