A Stout made with Cà Phê Chồn – one of the world’s rarest coffees, imported from Vietnam. Coffee beans are collected, cleaned and roasted after going through the digestive tract of the luwak, a type of civet with very particular tastes. Roasted malt links coffee, citrus and dark chocolate to form a potent brew leading to a hoppy, happy, bitter citrus finish.

Bottle shared at Chriso’s and Ruth pre GBBF shindig, August 5, 2017. Dark brown pour with a bit of beige foam. Roast chocolate nose, sweetish and quite dry while still luscious. Nice sweetish thing going with this one. Well balanced not really sweet. Good stuff.

Pitch black coloured body with an oily and very thin, rich brown head, about two centimetres tall. Aroma of super roasted malts, vanilla, oak, grain, alcohol, milk, cream, lactose and more vanilla - pungent and bitter throughout. Full-bodied; Strong roasted malt flavour with a big dose of cream, coffee, earth, nuts, toffee, alcohol and even a hint of cherries. Aftertaste is strong, but showing the nice creamy and lactose flavours at first then ending with more of a nutty and earthy flavour, showing the roasted flavours at the tail end with bitter coffee and chocolate on the finish. Overall, a very nice beer of course and showing a lot of complexity that goes down fairly easily for the ABV and pungency as well. Great to sample, and even better on draught and much better than that was that it was free! I sampled two of these ten ounce pours on draught at the Ginger Man in New York, New York on 10-June-2017 due to the super nice bartender Ally who was/is moving to Chicago - Thanks Ally!

Bottle @ Camping Piantelle, Lago de Garda. Pours very dark brown with a creamy brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, coffee, dark chocolate. Flavor is sweet and rather bitter, rich roasted malt, rich coffee, expresso, caramel, dark chocolate. Medium body, lively bordering overcarbonated, roasted rather bitter finish. A shame the carbonation is so high, drawback to a great beer. 160717

355ml can. Pours black with an 8-finger(!!!)* tan head taking up almost the entire glass. Aroma: roasted malts, dark chocolate, a little fruitiness. Taste: dark chocolate, dried fruits, roasted malt, coffee, liquorice, very rich and very sweet, a bit too sweet actually. Full bodied with moderate carbonation, smooth mouthfeel, slight warming alcohol. Pretty good stuff all things considered, but the sweetness could be dialled down a touch to make it a bit more palatable.
*Can from a bad batch which underwent way too much fermentation since I bought it, resulting in the can deforming weirdly. Main reason why I am drinking now. Getting the whole can in a glass and waiting for the head to settle took just over 10 minutes, all seemed ok after that.
