Bottle from Toby's cellar. This one hasn't seen the light of day for a while. Dark amber with a small head. Aroma is malts and root beer barrels. Taste is sweet, then malty. Held up pretty well for a 10 year old bottle

Bottle boise a deep dark mahogany a short lived quicknhead. Nice carmelized malt light brown sugar aroma. A bit him and dry on he finish but decent bitterness and well ballanced. Not bad for a macro micro.

12 ounce bottle from State Line Liquors. Pours a dark reddish brown color with a thin frothy tan head. Fair head retention. Aroma of toffee, some mild toast and a bitter hop finish. The taste is toffee, treacle, almost chocolatey and a bitter citrus hop finish. Medium bodied, bitter hop finish, Solid beer.

Tap at the Sacramento venue. Pours nearly black with a creamy beige head. Brown sugar aroma. Flavor is biter with a touch of heat.So bitter the brown sugar is background. Malty yet bitter. Heat sort of dissipates. Excellent.

12oz bottle. Deep thick brown-red. Thin, oily beige head steadily rims the glass. Sweet big malt aroma. While there is some serious resiny hop action, this is pretty malt forward, letting the thick, rich malt tones shine. Relatively straightforward and well executed. Dry, cherry wood tones. Full bodied, but hides the alcohol well.

12 oz bottle from the Fall Variety Pack bought from work. Pours hazy amber with a collapsing light-beige head. Aroma is caramelly, bready malt. Taste is malty sweet with a lingering, but not massively bitter finish. Has a dessert-like fruitiness, like roasted apples covered in caramel. Mouthfeel is syrupy and the carbonation average. Tasty, but doesn’t quite reach the complexities that the best barleywines have.

Sample at the Seattle brewpub. Dark copper-amber color with a medium light beige head that dissipates slowly. Small patches of lacing on the glass. The aroma is malty with some dark fruit notes. Full-bodied with a rich caramel malt character and flavors of hops and ripe fruit. The finish is sweet with up front and leaves a piney hops aftertaste. Above average overall.
