Amber-brown, slight haze. Thin head. The aroma has some caramel, a bit of alcohol and it's fairly estery. On the palate, it's got some alcohol and that fruitiness. It's not bad, maybe a bit muddled in terms of the alcohol and what to me is a bit excessive ester character.

Poured from 473mL bottle (pkg 10/22/2025; 9% abv). Amber brown with small beige head. Light toffee and caramel malts with feint spices and gentle bitter hopping. Decent. Gives some lighter abv spiced American barley wine vibes.

473mL can. Pours dark brown with a beige head. Dry brown sugar, pastry shells, and nutmeg on the nose. Flavour is pretty dry with a pastry malt backbone, dry sugars, and winter spices. Nicely done for a gimmicky style.

Draught. Cloudy brown pour with thin head. Much lacing. Light aroma. Sweet body with toffee and candy notes. Hop zest edge in the finish.

Taster at Loyal Legion. Darker amber, small head, but sticky lacing. Aroma is candy sugar and caramel. Taste adds some piney hops to the malts, a bit sweet, a bit bitter. Doesn’t seem strong....

On tap at loyal legion Portland. Pours out a copper brown color topped with a sand head. Nose is lots of spice sweet and hoppy notes. Taste is more of the nice spice combo pine spruce tips and some candy.

On tap at ABV. Pours a reddish color with a small white head. A big spicy sweet nose. Huge spices, caramel, soft floral notes, quite clean. Solid beer. A bit of toffee and maybe some berries.

Dec 2025 review: 16 oz. can, pours a deep dark red with a small beige head. Aroma has dried caramel, bready toffee, and very faint Xmas spices. Flavour has complex caramel malts, bready toffee, Xmas spices, and light sweetness on the finish. Nice malts and spiciness. Pretty solid—much better than my rating 11 years ago.

Dec 2014 review:On tap at De Garde, pours a dark mahogany with a small pinkish head. Aroma is extremely malty, with loads of toffee, caramel, holiday spice and bready notes. Flavour is extremely spicy, with toffee, bready malts, and more spices. Too spicy for me. It's decently constructed, but I'm not a fan of such holiday spiced ales. Okay.
