Bottle @ Home. Pours pitch black with a fading brown head, setling to a small ring of foam, some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, coffee, dark chocolate, dried dark fruit, plum, figs, alcohol. Flavor is rather sweet, malt, sweet dried dark fruit, plum, figs, dark chocolate, licorice, boozy, wood. Medium body, quite high carbonation for the ABV, sweet finish with lots of alcohol. 301015

Bottle sample @ BAJT. Pours viscous pitch black with a small mocha head that doesn’t leave much trace while dissipating. Smell is malty and fruity with roasted malts, burnt caramel, toffee, dark roast coffee, chocolate syrup, raisins, dates, leather, moist soil and alcohol. Taste is sweet, bitter, salty and malty. Mouthfeel is viscous, round, roasted astringent, slightly boozy and near full bodied. Finish is sweet and bitter with roasted malts, burnt caramel, syrupy coffee and chocolate, raisins, dates, brandy, ketjap manis, cardboard and alcohol. Time has taken its toll but still a fairly good heavy IS. Was most likely quite good many years ago. --- Beer merged from original tick of Dark Horizon 2nd Edition on 27 Oct 2015 at 19:44 - Score: 7

500 ml bottle with a nice aluminum case. This was brewed in about 2008!! Bottle stamped number 5493. AdamC with another crazy share! Pitch black with no carbonation (obviously). Aroma is dark chocolate and still showing a solid amount of alcohol. Hints of molasses, dark fruit.

The viscosity of this stout is crazy! As you swirl the snifter, it leaves an oily film, same as it is across the palate. Flavor is notes of tobacco leaves, mild dark fruit, dark chocolate, espresso bean and perhaps anise. The mouthfeel is full with that slick film over the palate. This is an 8 year old brew and it is NOT a mess. The booze preserved the stout nicely. A touch hot from booze with alcohol but it truly helped preserve this stout, wow!

Acquired in a trade 3 years ago, split 3 ways at cellar temperature today. Small bottle for a big tin.

A - Good cap whisp. Sounds full of carbonation but pours a small head. Pitch black and thick.

S - The aroma is pretty awesome. A lot of vanilla, coconut and dark chocolate fudge. Bourbon presence is big but everything is well integrated.

T - Taste is very nice. Chocolate, fudge, some oak smoke, char taste with a faded coffee bean and maybe some raisin. There’s a lot of flavor here. Well integrated and actually slightly oxidized but it’s minimal.

M - Thick and oily, tiny carbonation bubbles

O - I’m very impressed by how well this held up. A big beer but it really did well over the last 7 years. Fantastic but I’d drink it soon if you have a bottle.

Bottle shared at Garvie’s - big thanks to the host. Pours oily black with a small brown foam head. The nose has lots of charred wood, iodine, dark cocoa, earth. Medium to big sweet flavor with rich earthy roast, more char, baking cocoa, burnt sugars, slight vanilla. Full bodied, chewy, with fine carbonation. Quite nicely balanced on the finish - especially considering the strength - with plenty of peat, cocoa, roast, earth, some leathery dark fruits. Very good overall.
