Opaque black beer, thin chocolate coloured head. Dark malt nose with ’green’ coffee. Surprisingly light palate, a little soft. Spirity dark malt and coffee. A coffee liquer without the sweetness. A trace of unsweet dark chocolate. Whisper of cherry before an effervescent dark malt with minerals. Less sweet than the 1st Edition but lighter and with some fruit.

Bottle #04523, shared by badnewsbeers. Deep charcoal body, thin ring of ochre bubbles. Deep, warming, potent nose with layers of espresso, chocolate liqueur, roasted malts, and alcohol. Dry, inky, rather lifeless body with oily roasted coffee and big oak and alcohol. Hot and rough, the aroma is the highlight.

From the 12/2011 3R6P tasting. +++Sampled from a 16 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a small foamy brown head that lingered and left some lacing. The aroma was sweet cocoa, sugar, coffee, vanilla and bourbon. The flavor was bourbon, cherry, port wine and light vanilla. The finish was long bourbon and port. Fairly full bodied. Nice, but not nearly as good as batch 1.

50 cl bottle @ home
Aroma has alcohol, licorice and salmiac. Flavour has salty licorice, coffee and some alcohol. Very warm finish with alcohol that almost comes too much through. And it actually starts to disturb after some sips. Not bad but I’ve had better (4.1) bottles of this.

500ml bottle from Chuck’s poured into a snifter. Bottle #06197. Mine says 17.5% ABV. Pours black with about a finger of dark tan head. Aroma is heavily coco. Alcohol, a little smoke, and slight coffee notes also. Taste is light bitter and very light sour. Taste is heavily coco with some nice coffee. Light smoke and a decent alcohol burn. Full bodied with a somewhat oily texture. Soft carbonation and a very long finish. Overall, this beer is great. 4 years has been great to this beer, but I hope I can find another one to age for much longer.

500 mL bottle # 11550. Pours pitch black with a thin fizzy brown head that disappears quickly. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, booze, soy, vanilla, cherries and leather. The taste is big roasty notes, chocolate, coffee, booze and more hops than I expected. Full bodied. Pretty hot.

Sample @ Gothenburg Beerfest 2011. 2-9-2011 Brune foncée, col moka. Arôme de fût avec déjà un peu d’age donnant une note de soja. En bouche, léger tourbe, alcool est bien présent et réchauffant, malt noire avec une pointe grillée et sur la fin une couche de soja rend le palais liquoreux et épais.
