Named after the device on a locomotive that clears the way, Cowcatcher always runs smooth. This milk stout is as black as night with a thick tan head. One whiff and you’ll notice the aromas of rich cocoa and dark-roasted coffee beans. Swish it around your palate to savor its full-body and smooth mouthfeel. It boasts a warm pumpernickel-bready flavor and finishes with a touch of bittersweet chocolate. Enjoy this beer with dessert - brownies, chocolate chip cookies, or any rich, sweet treat.

12 oz can from jocs, 12/23/19. Pours a dark brown color with a large, fizzy, light brown colored head. Roast, chocolate, bit of coconut. Moderately sweet. Fizzy feel. Decent, but not quite there for me.

Can purchased from local beer store. Poured a nearly pitch black color with a huge, foamy dark tan head. Aroma was lots of roasted, dark malts. Some bitter bakers chocolate notes. Flavor was really creamy, lactose chocolate, with a decent malt finish. Had this on a 90 degree night and it was still really refreshing.

Really nice beer. Lots of roast, with light caramel and some dark chocolate. Some coffee. Black pour with good head and lacing. Creamy consistency. Nicely done. Tap at Continental.

Draft at Yard House-Springfield. Dark, muddy brown with small beige head. Barely there roast grain aroma leads into a fuller taste, but still not that robust. Some notes of chocolate as well, but not enough to push this one above average.

Nutty pecan aroma with chocolate accents. Black, medium tan head, good lacing. Pecan and almond flavor, lightly and appropriately sweet. Finishes more bitter with some toast and char notes. Drinks a little hot. Great example of the style without being milquetoast, pun absolutely intended.
