Description: Brooklyn Intensified Coffee Porter starts as a big, chocolatey ale, ready to take on super powers. The first power is gained from months of aging in Kentucky bourbon barrels. The second arises from delectable beans harvested by our pals at Finca El Manzano Single Origin Coffee in El Salvador. The final power comes from Blue Bottle Coffee, who roast the coffee to perfection. Brace yourself for complex notes of dark chocolate, vanilla, oak, berries, and dried fruit, coming to intensify you.

At Horeca Expo 2015, generously offered by the friendly girl at the Brooklyn booth. Light yellowish beige, moussy head over a blackish beer with hazy burgundy edges. Powerful, perfumey, enticing aroma of coffee liqueur, dark chocolate and cocoa, vanilla, cinnamon, bourbon, wet wood, blackberries, some peppery hops. Lovely, complex, indeed pretty intense onset of sweet candied fruits with dark berry sourishness, soft carbo, thick, oily, somewhat powdery mouthfeel as expected from an imperial porter, deep caramelly and lovely chocolatey maltiness, intensely bittersweet with balancing peppery hops in the finish, delicious woody tannins, a cleverly applied layer of mild but emphatic coffee bitterness and warming, bourbon-like alcohol. A delight.

Sample at GABF 09/26/2015, thanks to my sis for assistance with note-taking. Jet black color with a thick tan head that diminishes gradually. Patches of lacing. Aroma of bourbon, coffee and malt. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky bourbon, roasted coffee and chocolate malt. The finish is roasty and oaky with a bourbon and coffee aftertaste. Enjoyable beer all around.

From bottle at Ølfestivalen Nærbø 16.10.15 with ABE and OGJ. Very dark brown. Diminishing off-white head. Aroma of coconut, coffee and dark chocolate. Similar taste, also with vanilla. Well-balanced with hops. Good drinkability.

3600th review! 750 ml bottle into snifter, bottled on 6/23/2015. Pours nearly opaque dark brown color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense light tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, oak, plum, fig, and light licorice/molasses. Damn nice aromas with great complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt, coffee, dark fruit, and bourbon barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of big milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, vanilla, bourbon, oak, plum, fig, and light licorice/molasses. Light bourbon/oak spice and coffee bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, vanilla, bourbon, oak, plum, and fig on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt, coffee, dark fruit, and bourbon barrel flavors; with a nice roasted bitter/sweet and oak spiciness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/silky, and lightly slick/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is an awesome barrel aged coffee porter. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt, coffee, dark fruit, and bourbon barrel flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. This had a lot of similarity in flavors to Founders KBS, but was not as big on the coffee or mouthfeel for the ABV. Still a highly enjoyable offering regardless.
