Imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels

Namesake aside, this bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout is worthy of pouring every day of the week. Both elegant and complex, it exemplifies over 10 years of experience in barrel-aging technique. Notes of dark chocolate and vanilla are rounded out with hints of freshly picked cherries, dried figs, and molasses.

2017 edition, 14.6%. Appearance is black, opaque, with a small light brown head which clings a bit. Aroma is rich chocolate, fudge cake, vanilla, molasses, burnt fruitcake, ashy slightly smoky roast malt, rich roast coffee, treacle, charred oak, bourbon. Taste is thick, rich chocolate, chewy toffee, treacle, chocolate brownie, espresso, scorched dark malt, Christmas cake, molasses, oaky vanilla, whisky. Thick and sticky mouthfeel, and very chewy. Lengthy sweet finish with a bit of boozy heat. Ridiculously rich and sweet, almost too much (but not quite).

2019 can. Into a tulip glass. Massive booze and fusal alcohol on the nose. Moderate baker's chocolate and slight roast. Black with minimal brown head. Flavor is boozy whiskey and slight chocolate. Back half of palate is dry, chalky baker's chocolate. Massive booze on tihs.

12th September 2020 Opaque dark brown beer, small tan head. Palate is pretty light really, light for 14.8% for sure! Good fine carbonation lightens the palate further. The dark malts bring a decent amount of creamy dark chocolate, but it's no use pretending that the star of the show is bourbon. Fruity bourbon, light and warming and surprisingly not that spicy, well not after the De Molen Heaven Hill beer before this one. A little soft coconut goes very well with the dark chocolate. Smooth and fairly light finish. So light and drinkable.

Very high quality for the style. The way they should be done. Not too sweet, the boozy warmth perfectly balances the roast. Great creamy body. Everything big, but nothing too big. Schouskjelleren Oslo.
