Imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels

Namesake aside, this bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout is worthy of pouring every day of the week. Both elegant and complex, it exemplifies over 10 years of experience in barrel-aging technique. Notes of dark chocolate and vanilla are rounded out with hints of freshly picked cherries, dried figs, and molasses.

Big, bold, boozy. A nice Sunday relaxer.

Can 1 pint. Pours an opaque black with a small, creamy, beige head. Nose has sweet roast but it's totally overpowered by delicious candy-like Bourbon with tons of vanilla notes. Rich and sweet body, but not really oily or syrupy. Lots of chocolate notes, raisins but again the sweet and delicious Bourbon dominates completely. Warming alcohol finish. One of the smoothest, best integrated Bourbon BA imperial Stouts I've had. 181119

Draft: Poured a deep black color stout with a light dark brown foamy head. Aroma of sweet chocolate notes with some bourbon and light woody notes is quite enticing. Taste is a mix of heavy residual sugar notes with some bourbon and light woody notes and huge cholate notes. Body is full with nice creamy texture and good carbonation with some subtle alcohol notes also apparent. Solid liquid fudge drink.

Bottle, 2017, 14.6%. Color: Black, light brown head. Aroma: Dark roasted malt, Bourbon. Taste: Dark roasted malt, pretty strong yet well balanced Bourbon vanilla. Boozy, notes of chocolate and hints of licorice. Earthy. Long lasting finish, warming mouthfeel. Full body, below average carbonation. Medium sweet and moderate to medium bitter.

It So Happens that the Heisei Era ends on a Tuesday and I’ve got tomorrow off so I figured I’d go for this pricey 14%+ beer! Bruery So Happens it’s Tuesday 14.7% I believe bottles of this are still available via Nagano Trading. Brief flicker of a rusty tan head while the aroma was grapes from a foot away but up close gave bourbon and tannic oak. Jagged aggressive carbonation on a medium body but when I paired it with chocolate cake the richness of the cake dominated and did the beer no favors - not a recommended pairing. It went way better with dark chocolate which brought out berry notes. On its own, the look was the same but the aroma was improved with sweet maple bourbon notes. The full body has a raspy and prickly carbonation and sweet cacao flavor with treacle and bourbon with oak. Good stuff and one of the few beers I’ve had that was better on its own than paired.

Bottle shared at Anti-Carnavalstasting 2019. Black color, decent sized mocha head that diminishes fairly quickly. Aroma and flavor is malts, alcohol, sweetish, bourbon, sweetish milk chocolate. Very heavy though. Half a glass was certainly enough with this high ABV.

2017 version, 750ml bottle, thanks tiong! Dark brown pour, almost black, creamy brown pour on the top. Nose has figs, raisins, dark dried plums, feels somewhat boozy, light herbal smoke. Tastes fruity somewhat, dark fruits also in the taste, somewhat heavy and has some booze bitterness in the finish. Sweetness, dark fruits, something herbal, booze, lots of it. Good but a bit too boozy, heavy hitter that probably could use some extra time to mellow out.
