Rogue and North Coast Brewing Co. have joined forces with us to recreate a craft beer classic.
A hoppy citrus aroma radiates from this pale amber Barley Wine Ale. Its sturdy malt backbone is balanced with clean bitterness. Finishes pleasantly without overpowering.

22oz bottle. Lucky to try this at a Deschutes tasting, told that this was not distributed here. Color is hazed pale amber and orange. The basic idea of the beer is a good heaping of hops but not a hop-centric barleywine. A nice, slightly sweet and honeyish barleywine, not overly boozy, not astringent. Mostly clean flavor actually. Moderate bitterness, which is low for these brewers, at the end of the flavor.

Clear rose coloured body with a very thin off-white head. Aroma of prunes, raisins, figs, oak, vanilla and scotch. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong oak, peat, malt and pit fruits in the flavour with a bunch of complexity and some toffee notes with a little earthiness as well. Aftertaste shows some pit fruits, a lot of scotch and brandy and a bit of sweetness, but not much and not as much complexity as Iβd imagine. Overall, a decent barleywine at best with more pungent flavours at first then fading to a mild beer and not a great strong complex beer for the season. I sampled this beer on draught (US$4 for 30 cL) served in a snifter at the brewpub in Portland, Oregon earlier today on 13-April-2013.

Hoppy and fruity fresh, I reckon at some point in the future, it'll be more Barleywine like, like aged Bigfoot. As is, I like it.
