When our illustrious brewing team spiked a few barrels of the Stone Old Guardian Barley Wine with our Belgian yeast strain last year, we absolutely loved it. So much, in fact, that we knew we needed an excuse to make more. So, in our unending quest to constantly challenge the status quo (even our own), we came up with Odd Beers for Odd Years, a program to release odd beers – e.g. Stone Old Guardian BELGO Barley Wine – in odd years (2011, 2013, 2015…). It was met with a bit of resistance (to say the least) since we weren’t originally offering the traditional Old Guardian alongside it, but we’ve mended our ways and decided to make both. You’re welcome.

Bomber into snifter. "2011 Classic Release." My bottle reads 12% ABV. Pours a hazy orange hue with a medium-large old bone-colored head that collapses in a couple of minutes, leaving a blanket of foam. Smells like caramel-drizzled raisin bread. Taste is bittersweet. Not overly sweet, thankfully. I’ve had enough cloying barleywines to last me a lifetime. This one is delicious and balanced just right. Carbonation is medium-high, body is full, mouthfeel is creamy. World class.

Bottle @ Hotelroom, Denver. 2011 classic release. Pours dark / burned orange with creamy white head. Aroma of caramel, bisquet, resin, grapefruit, citruss. Taste is starting of sweet with caramel, sweet malt, toast, but is soon overtaken with bitter hops, resin, grapefruit, pine, bit of a alchohol burn. Medium body, soft carbonation, lasting bitter finish. Good beer, but more like a IIPA the a BW. 030311
