Next up, a lager. There are two schools of thought here, you can either keep it classic and nail the colours of Germany or the Czech Republic to the mast, or you can freestyle. Lost Lager is the best of both worlds. BrewDog Head of Production Jason Pond has spent months dialling in a brand new dry-hopped pilsner that has, at its heart, two secret weapons.

The first is the contemporary German hop variety Saphir – renowned for a vibrancy of citrus and stone fruit. The second is the deployment of lager yeast from the world-beating Weihenstephan. Conditioned for 28 days, Lost Lager is destined to be a crisp, clean pilsner with hints of spice and a zesty lime marmalade character. Prepare to lose yourself at the end of the month.

Sample at BrewDog DogTap. Clear yellow-orange color with a thin white head that burns away quickly to an outer ring. Short strings of lace. Aroma of malt, hops and fruit. Light-bodied with flavors of mildly spicy hops, grainy malt and fruit. The finish is citrus and hops. Decent overall.

500 ml can, from Bunnpris Sauda. ABV is 4.7%. Gusher can. Slightly hazy pale yellow colour, huge white head. Aroma of citrus, grass, stone fruits and herbs (Saphir hops). The flavour is dry, herbal, spicy and moderately fruity. A good pilsener, if it wasn't overcarbonated.

Not a bad pils, just a tad tame compared to the recent crop of above-average craft pilsners. Grainy sweetness with a modest buttered corn undertone, followed by grass and lemon yeast, with a bread finish accented by Euro hop floral bitterness. Okay.

[66cl bottle from Morrisons, Bracknell.] A pale amber pour with a loose white head and moderate carbonation; bready aroma with some grass and straw; and a pleasant grassy bitterness to finish. Rather good.
