Das goldene Märzen: Vollmundig, kräftig, malzig! Feine Karamellnoten und angenehm-milde Hopfenbittere! Ein wahres Genusserlebnis!

This golden yellow Märzen beer, a jewel of Bavarian brewing, combines an exceptionally fine scent with a light, fruity flavor. Full-bodied and spicy at the same time, the malt is emphasized from first sip to the finish.

Bottled (Beerangel, BB 02/2010). Pale copper color, good off-white head, lace. Metal, ash, clover, straw, grass and caramel in the nose - when warms up: barnyard. Crispish carbonation. Ryeish-caramelly malty, vague grassy-flowery hops. Only some metal. Bitter-harsh aftertaste. Biscuity. Unorthodox German Vienna (closer to hoppy Märzen), but not the most balanced one. Finish is also a bit thin for 5.5% German brew.

bought 17oct. 2008 el corte ingles, palma, rated mar 31 2009. best before 3-jun-2009. clear yellow, small thick white head. hoppy, but also a bit earthy aroma. flavor is a bit alcoholic, sweet and dark caramelly. reminds me of a grolsch i once tasted that was few months after best before date. ends sweet. i’ll have to rerate a fresh sample, as this bottleed one was not tasting good, i think it aged badly or have had too much heat at some point.

Bottled (from beerangel.de). Deep golden colour (almost coppery) with big off-white creamy/foamy head. Aroma is bready malts, some fruity and metallic notes as well as quite earthy and herbal notes. At first the metallicness was strong, but vanishes, as the beer gets to stand for itself for a while. Flavour is bready malts along with caramel malts, some slight wooden bitterness and also nuttyness and both some floral and fruity hops. Not really that viennaish for anything but the flavour, but then again, very hard to place in any category. As it warms up it gets some slight burnt wet wooden notes. Probably one of the most interesting beers I’ve had from Germany.

From the 5 liter can. Nice amber color. A rich aroma of fruits, caramel, toffee. Thick, rich malt favor with tons of caramel, butterscotch, and toffee, fruits, a bit of cardboard. Smooth, mild. This started off fantasticly, but got very cloying as I worked my way through the pint.
