Launch into the exquisite flavors of bourbon with splashes of vanilla. Watch for currents of dark chocolate and dried fruit. Generous amounts of hops and malts make for a smooth journey from start to finish. Decadent desserts and aged cheeses make superb companions.

Bottle. Pours murky brown, scan tan head. Aroma of caramel and butterscotch. Taste is extremely sweet caramel, vanilla. So dry it turns your cheeks inside out, so be careful.

750 c&c from Malt & Vine. Cork popped. Pours dark ruddy copper with a five finger beige tan head that’s creamy and bubbles like a pancake on the gridddle. Aromas of bourbon, darkish fruit and something like citric hop. Med body. First hit is bourbon/vanilla, second is chocolate, then it goes dark malt/fruit, and it finishes a bit sweet, with a light touch of heat, and some citric bitter. It’s really very smooth, and quite fruity. And bourbon all the time. Not one of those super whisky ales, just a well done time in the barrel. Just right.

(Bottle, Oliver Twist, Stockholm, 9 March 2011) Dark ruby colour with brief, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with caramel, oak wood, dried fruit, bourbon, treacle and hints of vanilla. Malty, fruity taste with notes of caramel, oak wood, bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, treacle, dried fruit, pink grapefruit and vinous hints of warming alcohol in a finish with a generous piney, citric bitterness and a spicy bourbon sweetness. Full body, quite bitter and sweet. Powerful and quite impressive beer. Lovely stuff!

750mL bottle, pours dark brown with a reddish tint with a big beige head. Aroma of dark dried fruits, molasses, bourbon and oak. Intensely complex flavour of dark dried fruits and chocolate, with a vanilla and oak on the finish. Most outstanding.

Bottle at SBWF 2010. Clear amber with a small, creamy head. Very nice aroma of dried fruit, oak and vanilla. The taste was quite complex and very pleasant. Excellent mouth feel, the alcohol was present but did not bother. I would love to have a bottle or two in my cellar.

Slightly chunky brownish coloured body with a ruby and copper glow and a thinnish, fast-dying light brown head. Aroma of pit fruits, chocolate, caramel, toasted malt, light vanilla and a touch of some light spices. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong oak and whiskey up front with more sweet flavours following soon afterwards. Aftertaste shows pit fruits, raisins, cherries and a bit of light hops. Overall, a good beer, not a great and super strong Barley Wine, but that’s good, given this bottle is 75 cL! I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Clarendon (Arlington), Virginia on 31-July-2010, sampled at home in Washington on 31-August-2010.

750ml bottle from GBBF ’10. Reddish-brown pour with a beige head. Good lacing in glass. Toffee, butterscotch, cinnamon, raisins and licorice aromas. Rich roast malt character. Licorice, bitter chocolate, vanilla, cloves, figs, dates and herb flavours.. Quite peaty. Alcohol well hidden. Well rounded brew. Good stuff.

Sampled at the 2010 RBSG Grand Tasting. Poured a slightly cloudy dark amber with minimal head. Aroma was bourbon forward with sweet grains and caramel growing throughout Flavor had more caramel which helped to control the bourbon and some sweet grains lying underneath with a hint of hops.

Bottle 2008 Vintage thanks to JohnGalt1. Pours out dark ruby red amber topped with a very small sand head. Aroma of caramel, bourbon, oak, fruit, vanilla, and alcohol. Taste was more of the barrel, with the vanilla, and oak showing very strong. A little more age might be in order for this.
