From the first sip you're bombarded with intense, bitter dark chocolate from the combination of malts, followed by the boozy notes you'd expect from a beer of this calibre. But this big hitter still goes down smoothly!

Panda at home, thanks to Kenneth, 24/04/24. Pitch black topped with a dirty tan head that retains well ... good looking impy stout. Nose is dark chocolate, molasses, booze tunes, spice, herb, burnt toffee, dark malts. Taste comprises dark malts, charr, roasted bite, molasses, liquorice, spice, dried fruit rinds, herb, raisins. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close spiked with a big boozey blitzkrieg. Tidy sipper if perhaps a bit 1D in its approach and overall flavour.

Can. Opaque dark brown beer, good bubbly tan head. Airy palate, mildly dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Dark chocolate Malteasers but pretty much sans any real sweetness. A mild smoky vibe. No barrel aging here but there is a strident brandy like richness to the ripe fruits in this one, would be a welcome treat in a Barleywine as much as this Impy. Airy finish brings on a little alcohol spice but really not much heat. A rich and rewarding brew that largely belies it's hefty 15% abv.

Black, with a nice creamy light brown head. Smells proper roasty, some dark chocolate. Smooth body, nice thickness, some warming boozyness. Taste is very nicely roasted, chocolaty at first with some coffee at the end. Slow sipper, but nicely tasty.

(Can, 0.44 l - BB 06.04.2022, at CoolHead Taproom, 20220113) The beer poured oily and black. Its head was small and lightly brown. Aroma had burnt malts, dark chocolate, cocoa powder and soy sauce. Palate was full bodied and warming with medium carbonation. Flavours were burnt malts, dark chocolate, ash, cocoa powder, coffee, mildly sweetness and medium bitterness. Aftertaste had burnt malts, ash, alcohols and bitterness. A pleasant and surprisingly drinkable burnt brew with very high ABV.
