Reviewed from notes.
Can to lager glass.
Appearance: yellow to copper color with a two finger white foamy head which slid off nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: grassy to spicy to floral and light melon-like hops with a nice clean cracker maltiness
Flavor: blends the prior noted aromas together in a sweet to spicy sort of way; finishes crisp with the crackery malts and floral hop tones
Texture: light to medium bodied, sessionable; very smooth along the tongue with a touch of dryness
Overall: pretty good German pilsener I would return to.

On tap at Grimm, pours a hazy bright yellow with a medium white head. Aroma brings out grassy hops, spicy hops, and crisp crackery malt. Flavour is biting and bitter, with lots of spicy Saaz-like hops, straw, and crisp crackery malt. Very well-hopped, finishing bitter, spicy, and crisp. Excellent.

Pours hazy gold into a stein. Bright white soapy head with medium retention recedes leaving soapy lacing. Lemon and hay aromas. Soft with lemon/lime and grapefruit peel and upfront turning to salty sourdough in the dusty lasting finish.

Canned 8/2/22, drunk 8/26/22. Clear, brass-hay. Large, frothy, white head, strong retention. Peppery hops show good clarity and no resin or anything like that. It's funny how long Saphir has been around and yet you NEVER see it in American beers. Seems great, and I remember it being great when it first came out when Weihenstephaner and others began using it. There is, perhaps, a touch of something you could call soapy from it, but otherwise, is delicate, peppery with lemon and light mineral. Like the noble hop version of Idaho 7. Malt-wise, it seems well-attenuated with cracker and biscuit. Clean yeast. Glad the huell melon was in the kettle, as I dislike it as a flavoring/aroma hop. Round, surprisingly big body with good attenuation though still some angel food cake and strong honey-like sweetness remaining. Lime, pepper and moderate bitterness leading to a bit of that what you might call soapiness. There's an undercurrent of mineral/earth and restrained bitterness. But yeah, a touch off-putting is the soapy character, even if there's a lot of great stuff going on otherwise.
