JavaHead is like a day at Tröegs; it’s hard to tell where the coffee ends and the beer begins. This creamy oatmeal stout is infused with locally roasted, cold steeped coffee through our HopBack vessel releasing subtle hints of cocoa, roasted nuts and dark mocha.

Bottle @ home via trade from quite a while back. Pours a deep brown/black appearance with a dark brown head. Dark chocolate, slightly green herbal, coffee, oatmeal, roasty aroma. Moderately herbal/green bean, dark chocolate, burnt coffee, lightly smoked flavor. There are some herbal / veggie notes in here that I’m not a huge fan of. Not sure if they present in fresh bottles or not.

12 oz. bottle, bonused to me by BrewtopiaofPJ (thanks Mark), pours black with a small tan head. Nose brings out coffee beans upfront, along with some lactose notes, and some hearty oats. Flavour brings out a combination of a cold cup of coffee, oatmeal and a light lactose quality. Finishes on notes of coffee and mild oats. There is a mild sweetness to balance out the other flavours as well. Medium-bodied, but not very complex, but still mildly enjoyable and sessionable - no hint of the ABV. Good stuff.

Refrigerated bottle set on the counter for a bit poured into a shaker. Pours black with small off-white head which dissapates quickly, and little lacing. Medium/light body, medium carbonation, and light coffee aroma. Taste is light coffee, herbal hops, some espresso, some unsweetened bakers chocolate, roasty, hint of oats, and long dry bitter hop finish. Better as it warms, complex, but not one of my favorites. If this beer had its own style it would be a coffee foreign stout.

Opaque brown - black beer, decent pale tan head. Light dry palate. Very moderate carbonation. Fresh tasting dark malt, not roasty or bitter. Very mild coffee. A little lactose sweetness. Semi dry finish. Pleasant coffee and malt aftertaste. Not bad - just a bit muted.

Bottle shared at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Very dark brown to black with a light brown head. Nice aroma of roasted coffee. Pleasant round roasty flavor with some coffee, a hint of chocolate and a bitter finish with a bit of hops. Medium-bodied. A nice Stout.
